I’ve just finished watching the 1st and 2nd season of Ghost in the Shell,as well as the 1st movie. I’m not really impressed with the 1st movie,partially due to the lousy graphics. I couldn’t really get the storyline of the movie as well.
But, the TV series totally KICKS ASS. I got hooked to the series, especially the last few episodes of the 1st season , where Section 9 was being hunted down . It made me want to know desperately what was going to happen next, just like the time when I did not want to study during the week of my O levels and instead watched 17 episodes of Black Lagoon during the weekend.
The part where the Tachikomas sacrificed themselves to save Batou was kinda touching. I mean, how often do you see AIs who are so attached to you that they would sacrifice themselves to put you out of danger. The last episode of the 2nd season also was equally touching, with the Tachikomas sacrificing themselves, once again, for good , by using the satellite which stores their AI as a shield against the nuclear missile.
One more thing I love about the Tachikomas is their voice.They sound cute,so cute that the voice doesn’t even fit them,but I like them anyway. Too bad all their AIs were destroyed. The new Uchikomas suck. Blue is so much cooler than green, and the Uchikomas sound too dull,unlike the Tachikoma’s childlike lively voice.

My favourite episode would be the one in season 2 where Saitou tells the story of how he got owned by Motoko during the war.Oh, and if Saitou is really so good in poker, he should go be a pro gambler and earn tons of money, or at least go play strip poker, instead of sticking around with Section 9.

My favourite characters would be the main character Motoko, as well as Batou. Motoko is one hell of an unstoppable female amazonian gorilla who can solo stuff you would never imagine. Ok that was an exaggeration,but still, I can’t deny the fact that she is a really invincible warrior. Batou has a sense of humor, as compared to the others,which is what I like him for. If not for him, the whole series would have been kinda dull. And he has a crush on the female ape. But seriously, he gets owned in situations which I did not expect him to get. For example, the episode in Season which he fights Kuze. Kuze owned him bigtime,by stabbing Batou’s chest with a metal pole which Batou used to attack Kuze with.

Overall, Ghost in the Shell has been a joy to watch. I enjoyed as much, if not more than Evangelion. The music fits right in just fine,and the animation’s great.
One last thing : 笑い男万歳!!!!
Go watch Ghost in the Shell: Solid State Society and “Innocence”!! both are quite good sequels to the GITS family.
Excellent anime GiTS, I really enjoyed the futuristic theme and the action scenes (man, Motoko is the invisible thing!). Agreed with you on the part about the sucky graphics in the 1st movie, the plot is soso but the 2nd movie which follows up on the 1st movie has a sucky plot (or maybe, it has so much depth, it’s all lost on me) but with the graphics of the GiTS seasons. The 3rd movie was more like a lengthened OVA for the 2nd season with a plot of its own. Pretty late post. Probaby no one reads this but heck, just wanted to post this.
