If you haven’t been reading around, go to here or here . Looks like ODEX has caught its prey. And from the look of the list,I doubt that the fine is going to be cheap. I think that letter’s gonna scare everyone into hiding and stopping their torrent downloads. I’m sure everyone is pissed about it,but no one can do anything about it. After all,it’s Singapore we are talking about. People can talk and talk, but no action done. I know how it feel, as it just takes something minor to get you in trouble with the authorities, in Singapore.
People say they don’t want to support Odex as the quality sucks. I agree and absolutely sympathize with the way they think. I too think that Odex’s goods are of inferior quality, and they shouldn’t be charging an arm and a leg for their dvds. I mean, even the R1 dvds are of decent quality and they aren’t that expensive. Odex, at least include extras as well as spend a bit more on the packaging will you? And hire someone who can sub anime properly.
But, even if you don’t buy Odex R3 dvds, you should at least support the international anime scene. I know of many people, including the people around me,who complain about the quality of Odex, but don’t even have the initial intention of buying any original anime dvds, even if they were R1 or R2. This pisses me off. Yea, I know, fansubs are free, but the main purpose of fansubs is to spark interest so that people will buy the dvds of anime that they really like. They are not purely there for you to sit your ass in front of your PC and watch the anime for free.
But you may say, “I’ve got better things to spend my money on. ”
How about not watching anime then? Don’t you have better things to spend your time on?
I myself buy R2 dvds,as they normally come with better frills(I’m a sucker for limited edition stuff and extras). I’m not asking everyone to buy R2 dvd, but at least support anime and buy some dvds, be it R1 or even Odex dvds, if you can stand the *ahem* quality. What I’m trying to say is,support anime and acknowledge it and its creators if you enjoy it. Of course, only a minority of anime fans in Singapore will actually do this. This is due to the Singapore kiasu attitude,”Why buy when I can get it free?”
In fact this is the same for music downloads. Get the original discs if you support the artiste. If you don’t have such an intention, don’t listen to the artiste’s music.
But,I’m not saying that I support the AVPAS should catch people for download anime. Like I have stated, its the fansubs that sparked interest. It was such a case for me. Also, the method they catch people in Singapore seems to be wrong. Go read up DarkMirage’s post, and you’ll understand why.
I’ve got a friend who got caught once, but fortunately for him, it was only a warning letter. And guess what ISP he was using. I don’t wanna say it out,but if you saw the letter, you would know. It was the same ISP. I’m glad I’m using cable instead of ADSL.
Bottomline of this post is : Catching people for fansub downloading will KILL the anime community in Singapore.
And for the people who claim to be anime fans but refuse to buy any original dvds even if they have the money to, just go screw yourself, real hard.

Hmm but they’re all raws right? I can’t understand much Japanese though … Only 1 school term of Japanese language course. Btw,Zer0,where do you take japanese courses and is JLPT4 easy or not as easy as it seems?
I am currently learning Japanese at Yano Language School (www.yanolas.com.sg). JLPT 4 standard is not difficult, after you get past memorising how to read and write the Japanese alphabets.
Well, you just know that this is going to bring up all the fansub ethic debates. Anyway, I’ve heard the dub, didn’t like it, had a friend who bought the dub who hated it, and thus am not gonna buy it.
Methinks I’ll just buy it on my possible trip to Japan at the end of the year.
