Lucky☆Star

When this series started, I had really high expectations of it,especially since everyone was going around ranting about how great it is going to be.That may have been due to Aya Hirano as Konata’s voice. For those of you that do not know,Aya Hirano also voiced Suzumiya Haruhi in the anime which attained cult status,The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. The advertisement for Lucky Star was kind of dumb I suppose, especially since there was only Konata’s face there for the entire thing,and she does not speak but instead makes her funny noise.

But,I decided to give it a try andwatched Lucky Star.I must say,the first episode was kind of a disappointment. Still,I decided to give it a second chance. I did not regret doing so until episode 6. After that,the series got more boring with each episode. It was harder and harder to stay focused to watch it,especially since I have 2 screens.While watching Lucky Star,I would be surfing the net,reading blogs etc.

Lucky Channel was kinda funny at first,with Akira as a tsundere. But after a while,it gets repetitive and Akira is now just a whiny bitch. I don’t even bother watching Lucky Channel now.

I can only think of 2 reasons why Lucky Star has recieved such reception from fans.

First, Aya Hirano.

Second, the various references. Otakus are a strange bunch of people who seem to like anime that take references from other anime. I’m not saying that I don’t like those kind of anime. But, I feel that Hayate no Gotoku, which also does references, has done a better job overall as an anime than Lucky Star.

I’m also not saying I hate KyoAni, if it ever comes across to those reading this. In fact,KyoAni rocks. Thank you KyoAni for Full Metal Panic Fumoffu and TSR, as well as The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

Overall,I feel that The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi is so much more successful than Lucky Star. At least I didnt get bored and enjoyed it.Sure,many people will slam me for saying such a thing,and argue that Lucky Star rocks. But, it actually boils down to personal preference.

    Lucky Star.. I honestly only love it for the drawing style, the idea of a girl like Konata, and of course, it’s opening dance.

    Other than that.. I found it entirely boring.
    I watch anime to get away from reflecting upon those dull conversations that happened at lunch time.
    Why would I want to watch something that I already live..? D;
