Why did Raito die so gracefully in the anime?!?!!

Finally my tests are over, and I seem to have screwed them all up.

Anyway, I just finished the last episode(37) of Death Note recently. I must say there overall the anime is very faithful to the manga’s storyline, unlike the movie which was really bad. It is one of the best manga to anime adaption I’ve seen so far. Also, the anime also showed some flashbacks on L’s past. I’ve never read past L’s death in the manga, skipping till book 12.

I felt that the arc of Mello and Near was pretty boring. But after watching the anime,my view on that arc totally changed. Sure,it wasn’t as exciting as Raito vs L,but still nevertheless exciting .

The finale of the Death Note anime has many scenes of Raito’s desperation and him being in pain, which is why I like it a lot.Raito no longer maintains the poker face throughout the entire episode, changing his facial expressions every time. This makes him seem realistic. Even a genius like him would be driven to desperation. Thats what it would really be in real life.

That’s the look of anger and desperation I was looking for!!!

I have read many comments stating that they wished Ratio had won,and I too would like to see how the story would go on with no one left to stop him. Anyway,if I were Raito,I would have ordered Mikami to extract few pieces of paper from the Death Note and hide it in his undergarments, just like what Takada did,so that Near and his gang can’t do any modifications to it. Then, during the meet with Near,I would order him to write on the separated paper, ensure victory to me and death to the rest.

More desperation!

I also liked how they included Mikami’s self-sacrifical act.If I remember correctly, Mikami did not kill himself in the manga. I think that there are 2 ways to interpret Mikami’s actions for stabbing himself.

Mikami’s suicide

Either

  • He is loyal to his God (Raito/Kira) till the end,and decides to act as a distraction in order to create a chance of escape for his God.

Raito’s Great Escape

Or

  • He has gone nuts seeing that his god has been defeated and just wanted to commit suicide to escape reality

One thing that I didn’t like about this last episode was the way how Raito died. He died to gracefully. Although he was a great anti-hero,I was looking forward to him struggling and begging for his life at the verge of death, clinging on frantically to his pitiful life. But,the scene of his death in the animation was of him dying peacefully. No heart attack at all! WHY?!

WTH?! Who said you could die so peacefully?!

The manga portrayal of Raito’s death is the best so far. Raito begging Ryuk to save him and kill the rest was really epic. If they did the same in the anime,it would have been perfect.

Hey,where’s the desperate look on your face?

Overall, the anime of Death Note has been really enjoyable.I practically enjoyed everything, except the death of Raito and the 2nd OP. The OP was really stupid. What’s with all the “Fuck” in there anyway. Songs with vulgarities aren’t cool.

For those who have not watched the last episode,go watch it NOW! Oh,and I can’t wait for the Death Note special to come out .Three cheers for Madhouse for a job well done! ^^

On a side note:

I like Death Note, but I haven’t bought any stuff related to it. I was actually going to buy the manga set,but the Death Note 13 Limited Edition was out of stock since long ago before I got into Death Note,so I decided against getting it.Perhaps,if I found one going cheap on Yahoo Japan Auctions,I would consider getting the rest of the 12 books.

My principle for collecting is simple : If I want to collect, get the entire set. If I can’t get the entire set, then I don’t get any part of the set at all.

I also loved the way the manga ended. Everything comes full circle: the man who once had every person in the world at his mercy, now reduced to pleading for his life. I never did follow the anime (although I loved the first episode), but the R1 DVD is always an option.

An excellent rule. Ideally I’d stick to that principle as well, but since it can be hard to get complete sets around here (we don’t have Kinokuniya after all) I allow myself to get just the first and last volumes of a series I like, plus a few “landmark” volumes from somewhere in between. Long term, I can always plug the holes in my collection via Amazon and other online stores.

Haha,I apply my principle to collecting figurines as well. An example would be the Evangelion Portraits. I was would not have gotten Season 2 if I hadn’t gotten Season 1 from yahoo japan auctions.

Hikaru/Kira was so much cooler when he didn’t express his emotions (except mirth) as it made him a much more sinister figure, which is in keeping with the Kira facade. After L goes, the whole series slowly crumbles apart.

‘No heart attack at all! WHY?!’ H Does Die of A heart Attack. Just bfore He Collapses On the Staris, you See The place where hisheart Is Bulge Out Slightly. I Tihnk His Death was So Graceful Was Sort of Showing Light’s Former Sideof Him Were All he Wanted Was To et Rid of The Criminals.

Actually it’s not ‘fuck’, the lyrics sings “ningen fuan ka” (restless humans) so if you speak it fast enough and deliberate emphasis it sounds like fuck. :D
