I met up with my cousin sometime ago,and we were talking about the anime that we watch and the manga that we read. The conversation was going all fine till she brought up the topic of Shonen Ai,which in turn moved on to Yaoi. WTF! Talking to a guy about Yaoi is pure wrongness. I mean its like ask a guy who’s perfectly straight if he likes gays.
I tried to avoid the topic as I detest Hentai artforms,and hate Yaoi artforms to the core. But she just went on about how great Yaoi,and even told me that she was encouraging the girls that are of legal in her class to be exposed to Yaoi artforms. If only my ears could shut themselves during that conversation.

Till now,I just don’t have the slightest clue as to why females like Yaoi. Edit 2: Seriously, thinking back, what I’ve written almost a year ago conflicts with what my current opinion. Over the year, I’ve actually been exposed to various people and an in depth form of the otaku culture. With that, I’ve learnt a whole lot from it. In fact, my trip to Akiba in 2008 has changed my thinking a whole lot after it opened my eyes to the otaku world. Sure, people may have their fetishes and whatnot, but who gives a damn as long as they’re nice people and have no malicious intent? I admit that it was childish of me to have done such a thing in the past , but don’t we all do moronic things when we were young?

I was looking for a sesshoumaru screensaver once, and accidentally opened a site witch hardcore inuyasha/sesshoumaru and inuyasha/miroku. Girls like yaoi because mainstream anime demotes girls to stupid, oversexed and highly sexist supporting roles aimed at the male audience (example: Haruhi.) Guys might be able to deal with that, but as a woman it’s hard to relate to a female lead who always more or less acts childish, looks innocent, has overwhelming motherly instincts and jiggly boobs as well as that grating “little girl” voice. Or the other extreme, the husky-voiced “hot lesbian” who acts more like a man with a vagina than a girl or even a lesbian girl (Now I wonder why fanboys are so hot for that. Hmmm…)

As far as whether homosexuality is accepted in all forms, whether in the real flesh and blood or in just plain ink and paper. The fact of the matter is take things in moderation.
As long as you do not obsess over hentai (regardless of what type of orientation of mates) it is fine. Watching it night and day, reading it, and obsess over it can do alot of strange things to the human mind.

There are two key issues I think should never be acceptable in Hentai or in Manga whether in gay or stright.
Violent Rape Scenes ( Gay or Stright.) It’s morally wrong all over the world. It promotes this violence as ‘pleasurable’ and acceptable. It should not be allowed.
Extremely detailed sexual scenes. ( I mean really really detailed, it looked like a autopsy)
Am not a sensor agent, but I have to admit these scenes really burn to the mind. Let’s face it, its no longer enjoyable anymore, it becomes a ravished addiction.
As far as WHO reads them, WHAT athey are about, and what inked up made-up characters choose as a partner really doesnt matter. All I suggest is to take things in moderation.

I understand if you dislike yaoi. And I even understand if you dislike yuri. It’s not in some people’s natures to like certain things, and it’s wrong to push it on others.

I don’t mind yaoi myself, but I do get awfully squeemish and find I can’t watch it. But I’m unable to watch a hetero pairing going “that far” because I feel uncomfortable watching anything doing that. I do like shonen-ai, for the same reason many girls do. I disagree. I am a straight girl. I went out with a girl because i was curious. I didn’t like it. I much prefer guys. But my point is if someone is in love gender, race, and background shouldn’t matter. A lot of my friends are either gay or bi. I have some straight friends but not a lot. I’m okay with gay marriage. You see people posting straight sex on the net just as well as gay sex. To me it’s all the same. I have no problem with any of it. Maybe i’m way to positive about this but it’s just my opinion. If you don’t like it and you think it’s gross then that’s okay because it’s your opinion. SOme of my friends think it’s gross. haha.
How dare you, what gives you the right to discriminate girls because of how they look. I understand that you may dislike yaoi or shounen-ai for many reasons and i have nothing against you for doing so. However please do not be rude to people because they look different and like things you do not. The world would be a boring place if everyone looked the same and liked the same things.

That’s very sweet that you learned to tolerate and be patient with yaoi and yaoi fangirls. But even if you hadn’t edited that post I wouldn’t have been mad. If you have a problem with something you have a full right to express how you feel about it. Yaoi has virtually nothing to do with gay culture in the real world, so if anyone pulled the homophobia card out on you, I know plenty of gay guys who hate yaoi. I’m a yaoi fangirl myself and have been for a very long time. Even though it’s more of a guilty pleasure now and I don’t really like to talk about it unless I’m around good friends who like it too. I actually can’t stand in the least most of the yaoi fanbase. Especially the fat or ugly yaoi fangirls. It sounds bad but alot of them are really fucking annoying. And it pisses me off that they’ll commit social suicide in any way shape or form just because they like anime boys boinking. Someone should tell them you can dress and look well and still like yaoi.
Of course not all yaoi fangirls are bad. There are alot of yaoi artists and fans I know OL and IRL who are great people and are easy to hold a conversation with.
But anyways, yeah, like I said, you’re 100 percent entitled to your opinion, even if its “omg fucking gross how could you girls like gay guy porn?!” Though the real answer to that is because it’s not real gay porn. They never show dicks in yaoi.

Well it’s not like i can’t understand people who think yaoi is gross as for me i never thought like that i was just keeping away from it for a long time thinking it was very weird but still interesting. People read hentai so what’s wrong with yaoi. Gezz i hate double standards. If those who read yaoi are sick then so are those who read hentai. I love to draw yaoi but sometimes it’s kinda weird…there’s nothing wrong about it except for the fact it’s addicting…(note: I’m a girl and I don’t mean the perverted kind of addiction) I just think it’s an interesting kind of art and even if I love to draw it, it always bothers me since I was born in a devote Catholic family, living in a overly-conservative Catholic society and studying in a Catholic school, where anything yaoi is banned…IT’S SO UNFAIR!!!
I am a gay male and I think that it is wrong for other people to judge the gay community in this way. You wouldn’t be as upset about interracial (black with white etc) art so it’s unfair to be “anti-yaoi” Very narrow minded.
