Anime Movies that are Great

With Japanese Anime movies being the hype,I decided to watch some of the more popular ones to see how great they are.And indeed, they are great.

To date,I have watched Byousoku 5cm,Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo and Brave Story. I never regretted spending the time watching these 3.Why?

  • Graphics
  • Storyline

These 2 factors alone are enough for me to spend my time watching.

Let me state some of my opinions on the 2 factor in the 3 movies.

Byousoku 5 cm

Graphics: The scenery is great. Sakura petals floating in the air,the snowflakes, the city, the trains. All of them are so realistic. Watching this movie feels as if I have gone to Japan’s city and countryside, together with the characters. Watching such a movie during the exams really relaxes the mind.

Storyline: The story is basically about this guy,Takaki ,who got seperated from his childhood friend/lover,due to some circumstances. And about how he lives his life after their seperation, and how he longs to be able to be together with the girl again. The story moves from when they were children,to when they go up to high school, and finally all the way when they step into the society. Really simple yet touching storyline.Final opinions: I think this is definitely one movie worth getting the DVD.If I manage to spot the Limited Edition when I go to Chiba.

Brave Story

Graphics: I really love the battle scenes. The graphics in those scenes are pretty cool, with the fire and ice looking so real you can almost feel them. Overall, the graphics are good, better than your average animated movie.

Storyline: The storyline is quite a common one,so there is nothing really much that is unique. A boy goes to an unknown world on a quest to seek a Goddess to grant a wish of his. Along the way,he meets new comrades who help him in his fight. Still,I like the way Wataru gave up his only wish to destroy all the demons in the world and bring peace to it. Such a self-sacrifical act. If it was me,I would most likely be selfish.

Overall Opinion: This is another movie that I enjoyed, but due to my limited fundings,I doubt I would be getting this anytime soon. Oh and the theme song,Ketsui no Asa ni by Aqua Timez, was pretty good.

Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo

Graphics: One thing I like is great graphics in a movie about daily life and places. Somehow,by watching movie containing such scenes,I am able to somehow have a link with the movie. Seeing Makoto’s house in the different times of the day, especially in the morning when she leaves for school, and in the evening, makes this movie seem realistic. Thus, this movie scores points from me,as Byousoku 5cm did.

Storyline: Makoto is an average girl who one day unexpectedly gains the ability to time leap. From there on,she uses her ability to do stuff such as singing many hours of karaoke for free, eating the pudding that her sister ate,and even helping her friends to form a couple. It’s pretty hilarious. However, near the end of the movie, things start to get serious and emotional, which I feel balances out the movie. Overall, the storyline’s quite unique.

Overall Opinion: Definitely a must-watch. The graphics of this movie are pretty decent, and far above average. The storyline is quite interesting, and I never got bored throughout the entire film.In fact,I was laughing more than half the time throughout the movie. I would get the DVD if the Limited Edition is still being sold.

And there you have it,the 3 movies.

They are really worth your time, and for those who have no managed to view them,I would encourage you to do so.

Sounds like I should definitely check out Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo. Seems to have a really interesting premise, and I’m always a fan of down-to-earth shows that feel very “real” even when they incorporate fantastic elements in them.

Glad to hear you liked Byousoku 5cm. I enjoyed it more than any other film in recent memory, Japanese or Western. I also highly recommend it.

If you watched Byousoku 5cm and loved it, you should really watch Shinkai Makoto’s past works, Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho (The Promised Place in Our Early Days) and Hoshi no Koe (Voices of a Distant Star).
