The world is not beautiful, therefore it is.

This phrase is so true. The world is never a perfect beautiful one,but still, it is beautiful because of the flaws it has.
The storyline of Kino no Tabi is a rather simple one. Kino, a traveller, travels from country to country, staying 3 days each country, irregardless of how the country is. So, since it has such a simple storyline, one would say that this anime would only be fitting for little kids. But,my opinions are otherwise. Why?
Behind each simple story, there is a much deeper meaning behind it. In fact, many of these stories illustrate very well why there is so much suffering in the world. Many human flaws can be seen from the various stories.Greed, Vengeance, Hatred and Violence are just a few to be named.

Take for example, the episode with Kino rescuing some people who were dying out in the cold. She chose to sacrifice the life of 3 rabbits in order to save the lives of 3 fellow humans. She hesitated killing the rabbits so as to provide food for the starving trio, but still managed to convince herself that she’s was doing it for a greater good. The 3 men turned out to be scums, and wanted to make Kino a slave after she saved them.

I think that the anime portrayed the story in a realistic manner. I am sure that what those scums did would happen in real life,if there was such a case. Humans are born selfish beings, placing themselves before others. Only a minority grow up to learn selflessness. If humans were not selfish, there would be no such things as wars and killings. The world would be a much better place.
But,it still remains a fact that humans are selfish, and the world is flawed. But,within this flaws, we can occasionally find a slight glimmer of hope and goodness. It is these little shards of positiveness that makes the world beautiful.

Also, one point I think the series constantly emphasizes on is that the world is how you perceive it to be. Be negative, and a perfect world would seem like hell. And in a flawed world, have a positive view, and life would be much happier. What I am saying may seem stupid, but if you think about it,it would make sense.
Anyway,I find that Kino no Tabi has been quite a thought-provoking anime. Every episode leaves me thinking about how the issues mentioned are relevant to reality.

Now,to move on to the novels, which I hope are as of high quality,if not higher quality than the anime. It’s a pity I was exposed to such a great anime at such a late time.People should actually watch this anime, and not shun it just because there is a talking motorrad included in the story. Those who do have missed out on some really good stuff.
Lastly, for those who are confused with Kino’s gender.Kino is female. Girls skilled with guns are hot.

And I am so going to get that awesome 1/8 figurine of her which is going to be released in December. It would make a great Christmas present to myself, not that I celebrate Christmas anyway.

THAT IS ONE HOT FIGURINE. Goodsmile definitely know their stuff.
So much for Nagato being my one and only - I have got to get my hands on this one. Looks like Christmas 2007 will be one of the costliest ever.
Anyway, I’m glad you liked this series. I took a gamble when I decided to order the R1 DVD set (I hadn’t seen the fansubs beforehand so I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into), but as I remarked in my June review of the DVDs it was a worthwhile investment. Definitely one of the best series I’ve ever seen.
LOL,I’m hoping to get the r2 dvds while I’m over at Japan next week.
nice pics, i liked kino’s journey a lot… but everyone i know thinks it’s too boring =.=” saddening…
