How Anime Might Have Changed Your Way of Thinking and How You Do Things

I’m sure everyone has changed in a way or another after starting to watch anime, be it in major or minor ways.

Here are some personal examples of how anime can change a person’s way of thinking/doing things:

Transport
You think that taking the bus home for 50 cents is a waste of money, since you can walk. 50 cents a day means $15 a month and $180 and year and…. Yea, you get what I’m saying. Imagine the stuff you can buy by just walking anyway! And you can delude yourself into think that walking is an extremely healthy activity, and buses are for lazy people.

But, your mindset totally changes when you have a figurine or some posters with you. Bus rides are a must so that you can migitate the risk of your loot being damaged. Plus, you want the fastest way home so that you can unwrap your goodies.

Clothes
You think 10 dollars for a normal T-shirt is a ripoff, yet 40 dollars for a Cospa T-shirt is totally worth every single cent. After all, your favourite anime/character is printed on it, and that alone makes it uber cool. Designer shirts don’t stand a chance.
You think that jackets with a swoosh or three stripes selling at around $80 are overpriced, yet you gladly fork out $88 for a Cospa Full Metal Panic Jacket, and feel that you have made a worthy purchase.

Food/Drinks
You would think twice (or even thrice) about getting a drink after each meal despite drinks selling below a dollar in school canteens, but you don’t even hesitate as you grab cans and more cans of coffee with your favourite anime characters printed on it. The coffee costs twice as expensive as the canteen’s drinks, tastes like crap. You would probably never even drink it and only bought it just for collection/display. Yet, you just buy it so that you can get that free clear folder that is supposedly exclusive.

$5 on a single meal makes your wallet feel excruciating pain, yet $50 for a figurine is a totally reasonable price.

Purchasing
You dump your $5 handphone pouch for a $28 handphone pouch which has inferior material, just because the new pouch has words such as “A.T FIELD” and “YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE” printed on it.

You tell your parents not to buy any stuff to display in your room as it is a total waste of money. Yet, you happily decorate your room with wallscrolls, posters, shitajikis and whatnot, days after you tell them that.

Free calendars that you would actually use are just a total waste of space. On the other hand, anime-themed calendars are worth buying, even though you know you will never do any markings on them.

Misc.
You cannot figure why your classmates are so obsessed over Taiwan dramas with plots that make you want to puke. Many animes out there have better looking characters and superior storyline. They should just wake up from their delusion and watch anime instead.

You tell others that local TV sucks because of the low-quality TV programs aired ( OK,that’s a true fact), but in actual fact, the reason you truly feel so would be the lack of anime series airing.

That’s all I can think of right now. I’m sure I have missed many other points out, so help add more points on this topic from your personal experiences!

hmm, those all seem fairly minor to me. nothing life-changing, like what air did to me.

I seem to have missed every single one of those. Different reasons for walking, not spending ridiculous amounts on food, etc. I guess it made my TV schedule not dependent on the limited channels I get, but that’s about it.

Initial start will run into those issues but as days go by, I start to find out what I really like, thus avoiding unnecessary spendings on figs and merchandise. This allows me to spend the other half of $ on non-otaku stuff like a good meal, movies etc.

With a few live-action drama adaptations of select anime/manga series (e.g. Nodame Cantabile, Hana Yori Dango) becoming a success, more and more fans of anime have been curious in the J-dorama scene (not to mention the booming K-drama genre). Granted, a majority of these fans are teenage asian pop culture addicts.

All I can say about the price differences is supply and demand.

yeah. my mum watches HK drama and i said “always the same actors” lol. but for anime, the people may be the same in same anime but they still do a great voicing over in the anime itself =D
