Kaiji : It’s a Cruel World

There are only a few shows that I have picked up this Fall, and Kaiji is one of the new anime series that is currently one of the top of my must watch list. Genshiken 2’s first episode has been quite a let down, considering the lack of references and humor. Hopefully, it’ll turn for the better. You’re Under Arrest: Full Throttle has been great so far. As for Gundam 00, I thought that it was going to be some gayass anime, but I have been proved otherwise. I have wronged G00! Anyway, these are currently the top 4 anime series on my must watch list.

Let me cut the crap short and go to the main topic.

In my opinion, Kaiji is somewhat like the 2D animated version of the Liar Game Live Action. The second episode has some similar parts to Lair Game. In the second episode, Kaiji gets conned by some confident guy into teaming up so that they can both maintain their 3 star status. He gave the guy 100% of his trust, only to end up with only one star remaining. Continue reading ‘Kaiji : It’s a Cruel World’

Gainax Loot

Today’s trip to KKnM was only supposed to be for me to sell the Evangelion 3D card to Sentinel011. Just before I headed down, I recieved 2 smses. Sweet.

Yoko from Gurren Lagann, and the 2 Pinky:ST Evangelion girls have arrived.

At KKnM, when it was finally my turn to purchase (the queue was considered long for a weekday), I collected my 2 preorders, and at the same time, enquired about the Petite Eva mini figurines that were in the arrival list. It turned out that they were keychains. I was still pondering over whether to get it, but once I was told that not all sets have the limited angel that comes with Ayanami Rei, I was immediately sold to the Petite Evas.

Sentinel came over soon after I was done with my purchase and bought the card.

Let me calculate my finances for the day. Continue reading ‘Gainax Loot’

24/10 is the day I await eagerly

What’s on the 24th of October?

BUMP OF CHICKEN AND GURREN LAGANN !!!!

I mentioned in a post quite some time ago that Bump of Chicken’s new single, 花の名, would be released on 24/10. I missed about another piece of news.

They are no longer releasing the single anymore.

Why?

That’s because they are releasing 2 singles on the very same date!!! This is the first time I have ever heard of a Japanese artiste releasing 2 singles on the same date. Amazing!!!

The second single is メーデー(Mayday).

2 singles release would also mean 2 hidden tracks. This is seriously going to get exciting.

I’m already hyped up just by listening to 花の名. You should listen to it too!

Sugoii desu ne. I really like how Bump Of Chicken’s slower songs have a soothing effect.

And Finally… Revoltech Rei’s Date Announced

New Year’s Day of 2008 will be a great start. Especially since the revoltech version of Rei will be released on that day.

The special price for the first release is 2000 yen, and the price would be reverted back to the normal price of 2200 yen after the first batch is sold out.

The following are the specifications: Continue reading ‘And Finally… Revoltech Rei’s Date Announced’

Balalaika owns! We need more of these videos!

Look at this awesome video I found. I laughed so hard throughout the entire clip that now my stomach hurts.

Balalaika seriously kicks arse. And the person who did this video is indeed creative.

I need more stuff to laugh at, so MOAR OF SUCH VIDEOS PLZ!

Anime OPs and EDs: Examples of what’s Good and what’s Crude

There are many anime out there, and together with the various series are the many opening and ending songs. So, with so many anime OP and ED songs out there, how do you judge what’s good and what sucks?

Anime Songs are in fact Japanese Pop songs, so the way to judge them is rather similar.

There 3 basic components that make or break a song, regardless of what genre of song it is.

  • Instrumental Tune
  • Lyrics
  • Artiste’s Vocals

I’m not any music guru, nor have I learnt anything about music before. Heck, I can’t even blow the recorder properly. But, I feel that the 3 points stated above are the foundation for a song. It’s pretty much common sense, but it seems that many artistes don’t have it.

For anime songs however, I feel that there’s another component which should be included so as to decide how great a song it is. This, however, is a bonus section. If the song fails the previous 3 basic points, it fails, even if it does well in this section.

  • The song’s ability to link to it’s anime series (this is pretty much linked to the lyrics component)

I don’t think I expressed this properly, so let me give you an example.

A song which I feel is has scored in all components would be “Tomorrow”, which is the OP for Full Metal Panic, sung by Shimokawa Mikuni. Why?

Japanese Students must really love their Clear Files

While I was in Japan, one of the anime merchandise that I managed to get was clear files. The cinema shop was selling the Evangelion clear files in conjunction to the film’s release, so I grabbed both designs.

TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN DVD FUND RAISING PROJECT

If only I had more money, there wouldn’t be this post. Region 2 DVDs have never been cheap. It’s a good thing that Gurren Lagann only has 9 DVDs. And the limited release of volume 1 is freaking expensive… If only that idiot at Akihabara sold me the DVDs. Fucker.

Anyway, the purpose of me posting this is to sell some anime stuff which I either have extra or just feel that selling it to help me fund for my DVDs would be a better choice.

Please help me by buying.

First up, Shitajiki.

You’re Under Arrest : FULL THROTTLE

It’s been a long time since the previous season of You’re Under Arrest. Not that long for me though, as it was only during the earlier half of this year when I watched it, which might be a good thing. For me,the transition between the 2nd to 3rd new season was only a few months, instead of years.

This post is basically for me to state what I hope the new season would have/be like. Continue reading ‘You’re Under Arrest : FULL THROTTLE’

So Little Time, So Little Money

Even before Gurren Lagann ended, I have always wanted to get the original limited edition R2 DVDs. When I went to Akihabara last money, the son-of-a-gun shopkeeper refused to sell me the DVDs as he kept insisting that I did not understand Japanese and hence was not suitable for purchasing them. That arsehole. He pissed me off, that bastard.

After that, I decided to order online, and unfortunately, they were all out of stock. All 3 volumes that have currently been released are totally sold out. The only way of getting them? Yahoo Japan Auctions. Shipping’s not cheap, and the Japanese are crazy people when it comes to bidding on auctions. Hence, my chances of getting them at an acceptable price are pretty low.

The DVDs are awesome looking, especially volume 2, which comes together with the box to contain till volume 4.

Here are the pictures of the 3 volumes.
