Revoltech, Figma, MMS, Impact Model and some other obscure brands. It seems that action figurines are quite the craze. Indeed, there is a wide array of brands to choose from. Hence, most people would probably just go for the brand which produces the characters that they like. The same goes for me. After all, as long as the action figurine looks good, and the price is right, there’s a high chance for it to be popular.
One flaw about action figurines, however, are the joints. Human action figurines with joints aren’t exactly the most pleasant looking things. For example, the Yoko on MMS and the figma Nagato Yuki. The Revoltech Revy had ugly joints too, but her weapons were rather cool.
On the other hand, joints are able to portray the realism of the mecha action figurines. After all, it’s the joints that make the figurines look like the real thing. Plus, you can fiddle around with it, unlike a scaled figurine.
I think I should get on with my opinions on the various action figure brands.

So this green-haired loli-looking character is so darn popular. Many are talking about her, and some are crazy over her. Why?

I have listened to some of the songs sung with her voice, but I am not really impressed. Sure, it was interesting on the first few listenings, but after a while, her voice kind of gets on my nerves. Now, I find her voice extremely irritating. I don’t see why people are so fascinated with her. Perhaps this is just my opinion which no one else would share.
She is merely a software, and many otakus rant about how great she is. I don’t see these people ranting about the greatness of other software. I presume this is moe doing it’s work. If Steve Jobs swapped the apple logo for a Moe Mascot, or Linux replaced the penguin with a moe penguin(is this even possible?!), we would probably see otakus ranting and raving about how great these Operating Systems.

Only a few months and there’s a Nendroid preorder up?!
I’m not that into moe, and I rarely watch pure moe shows. I simply just can imagine myself wasting 20 odd minutes on a single episode of those shows.
I think from Vocaloid, we learn that the best method to market stuff to otakus is to add a sprinkle of moe, and the product would probably be selling like Haruhi Limited Edition DVDs.

What Tanaka has just experienced is what I have always feared.
First, Tanaka molests his figurine, ogling at the intricate details and such.

WTF are you doing to that figurine!!!

I have been a fan of Battle Royale ever since I first watched the movie last year. I was amazed at the theme of the movie. It’s not everyday when you get to see a plot that revolves around 15 year olds killing their very own classmates. I went on to read the novel and the manga. Both were equally awesome in their own way. Especially the manga, which I have already reread countless times. And so, when Tokyopop came out with the Battle Royale Ultimate Edition, I was tempted to get it. And I did. The extras seemed promising, especially the commentary. Tokyopop was trying to milk BR fans, and they managed to milk my cash successfully.

Ultimate Edition MY ASS!!!

Remember when I said I just had to get Girlfriend of Steel 2 just a few posts ago?
Well, with the help of Windbell, I have finally managed to get it and just completed it yesterday. I only completed Rei’s ending though. This time, there is much more player interaction with the game, and it feels as if you are really in the visual novel’s world. I was hooked once I began and did not want to sleep until I managed to complete Rei’s ending.
Of course, with more interaction comes the chances of getting to a black screen with 2 dreaded word “Game Over”. Ever since my first bump into the dread black screen, I have learned the importance of saving frequently. After all, making each decision is like fighting a boss, one wrong move and it’s over for you.

Normally, when you purchase figurines, what do you usually consider? The sculpt, the pose, the manufacturer, the character, the price?
Well, those that I listed above are the ones which I always consider before ever settling the payment of the purchase/preorder. It seems, however, that I have missed out something….

AYANAMI REI!!!!111!!!
I bought this quite sometime ago, probably about 2 weeks I think. Anyway, this figurine fared quite well in the various factors. The sculpt and pose was alright, the manufacturer was quite good, the character is awesome, and the price was reasonable after the price cut. However, I left out one point of consideration. I went to Kinokuniya today, and happened to browse through this book. I regret doing so, and sympathize with my wallet. It’s awesome. I must get it. Even though I already said I would not unnecessarily get artbooks.
