Melon Pan is delicious.

I’d eat it for breakfast everyday I was in Japan. The crunchy sugar coated outside was so sweet and yummy and the center was always nice and fluffy.

Here in Australia I can’t buy it but I have made it myself.. to varying degrees of success.

I liked the kind I could buy from 7 eleven while I was there, it was green and the middle was all squishy and orange and melon flavoured. It was sugar coated too. So yummy

*facepalm* I never fail to be amazed at the extensive talk of melon-pan, 2 years(?) after the first Shana show appeared.

But… if there is one thing I can say, it’s this: who makes the bread determines its pwnage. Local confectioners? Tough luck, please this way to “Salmonella 101″ chamber.

Not one to spoil the party, but melon-pan (and being recently anti-Shana convert, the whole franchise) is not made of win: in other words, meh.

Haha, actually I find authentic melon pan rather nice. Most Singapore version suck though - that I have to agree.

I have only tried the Melon Pans in Japan… which was just as what you said - No Melon at all (But it’s pretty good for breakfast) and the size was about 1.6x times bigger.

They have better pastry there actually. Did quite enjoy the Apple Pie thing that was sold in the Supermarkets for 100 yen ^o^

I suppose the place you went to is Sun Moulin? The store at Isetan, that is. The melon bread there isn’t that good, and the choco cornets are too sweet. The cream cornets are better, though, since the chocolate coating of the choco cornet keeps falling off after you bite into it. Not to mention, the cream ones look better.

I’ve tried that melon pan from that shop too, and i bought 2 huhuh. I thought they were a Japanese bakery. They dint end up in the bin, i forced myself to eat for the sake of Shana!!

Here in Atlanta, a bakery chain called ‘Mozart Bakery’ has what they call ‘Cream Soboru’ which somewhat resembles the shape of melon bread and taste decently. My favorite bread is the big loaf that my wife makes. Did I also tell she makes very good taiyaki and cinnamon rolls as well?
