Furu Anime Panikku

I’ve always been troubled by this question.

Whenever I make some anime related purchases, half of the time, I have a hard time deciding whether or not I should unwrap the item and use it. I’m sure many fellow anime fans have the same problem too.

It’s contradicting, really. You want to use the item because you spent your cash on it and maximize its purpose of usage, but at the same time, another half of you says no, fearing that you might accidentally damage the item

Here are some examples of my decisions on some anime merchandise that I own :

Mug

I have always wanted to use this mug, but I realised that most of the time, drinks in my room are in cans or bottles. I seldom use cups, as I have to wash them after finishing my drink. Also, I have this tendency of leaving cups overnight. This habit, together with sugared beverages, would leave my cups sticky. I wouldn’t really care if my normal cups were sticky as I could wash the stains off, but for cups with anime logos on them, I would not want to risk even the slightest chance damaging them.

Hence, the Nerv Mug remains safe from contact with any form of liquid in its box. Not really a good idea though, since it defeats the purpose of me getting the cup.

Cup

Same reason as the Nerv Mug, just that this is made of glass, so it’s more fragile. Hence, letting it remain in the box migitate the risk of it breaking due to my sheer carelessness. Rei’s too fragile for me to use.

T-shirts

Out of all my Cospa wear, I just had to post a photo of the one with Rei

What reason would I buy Cospa T-shirts and not wear them? The designs are rather nice, and the material’s comfortable, so I don’t see why I should store them in the wardrobe. Plus, the print is rather durable, and still stays strong after a few washes. Purchasing Cospa wear is good, as you get to spend on both anime and clothes with the same amount of money. And utilizing them is making full use of your money. Shirts definitely look better worn, rather than framed up.

Calendar

This is the only picture I have of the calendar

Currently, it’s still shrink wrapped and stored away safely. Not using it yet would be quite logical, since 2008 hasn’t arrived. However, 2008 is just at the doorstep, and not using it by then would be defeating the true purpose of getting a calendar in the first place. Unless my true intent was to stash this calendar.

Also, I lack the wallspace to hang the calendar, so that might be an feasible excuse to delude myself into thinking that the calendar is not a total waste of money. But no fear, for I still have slightly more than a week to decide if I am putting the calendar to full use.

On another note… I just dug out 3 other unused 2007 calendars. LOL

Coffee

The answer for this a definite no. I’m never going to drink this because 1) The coffee sucks 2)There’s Rei on the can.

Stick Posters

I was too lazy to take the posters out of their boxes

I have the desire to display them in their fullest glory, but I lack the resources to frame them up. If I stuck them on the wall, some sneaky bug might just decide to commit a kamikaze and stain that shiny Rei poster. So unless I can get a frame of the correct size, they would probably never be able to grace my walls.

Pinbadges

I don’t even know why I bought them, but I just can’t bear to sell them. I never had the habit of pinning badges on bags, and I would not start, since my one and only bag costs more than a standard priced 1/6 scaled figurine. These guys would probably just stay in their plastic wrappings till the day I find the willpower to sell them off, or enter my grave.

Handphone Pouch

I had no intentions of using this, but the plastic wrapping for it was accidentally ripped when I tried to admire it. Before I knew it, it was clinging onto my waist almost everywhere I went. I was obliged to use it.

That’s all the usable merchandise that I can find in my collection, I suppose. Not a large number, but enough to give me a hard time when it boils down to the decision of “To use or not to”.

Do you have the similar problem as me? Or do you possess willpower of steel to put every single piece of merchandise to its fullest use, without even battling an eyelid? Or do you just simply avoid merchandise that require such a decision, like a plague?

P.S. I just realised all the merchandise mentioned in this post are branded under Evangelion. OH NOES!!!
