This is most definitely doujin artwork done by a Japanese doujin group. The weird name is hence accounted for. And to think some people find Girlfriend of Steel a weird name for a visual novel.

This character design looks rather decent, and I’m sure Megane fanboys would love her. Unlike Kirishima Mana, who is designed after a mixture of Rei and Asuka, this character design is original. Which brings us to the next point.
What I find amusing is how people insist this character would be featured in the second movie. Firstly, this character doesn’t even have a name. Secondly, there’s not even the slightest hint of any official word from Gainax concerning details of the next movie. It’s rather interesting how the Internet has so many gullible people.
Still, I would have to admit that this doujin art is rather well done. At least many people were fooled by it. Either that, or Gainax has crappy official art.
Edit: I might be wrong about this girl not being featured in the second movie. After rewatching the movie, I realised that the trailer had a split second of a female with a similar character design. I blame my flash memory if what I wrote earlier was a grave mistake on my part D= I guess only time will tell…

In the new eva game for the DS “petit eva @game” it reveals her name to be Mari and is shown with almost the exact same design as this pic. Also in the october 2008 issue of newtype anime magazine, an image is show from the torso down of her and her outfit is similar to the one she’s in here.
hey idiot, if a character called Mary in the second movie “Rebuild of Evangelion” and it seems that it brought a U.S. pilot and pilot of EVA 05 is orange
wow Aquastar, I thought I was the only one who heard of that game. It definitely needs a western release, I can’t read japanese
