Imageboards : The Best Way To Kill/Burn Time

Imageboards are seriously addictive. I go to one in search of a single picture, only to remain at the same site looking for more pictures which I didn’t intend to find. This results in a waste of precious time, time which could be spent wisely on completing my anime backlogs, or even studying for my exam arrving in less than 2 weeks.

On the other hand, it isn’t always that bad an idea, since my image collection gets to grow. This is rather handy as it would be easier obtaining an image via scrolling through a collection that has passed your very own quality check standards, rather than just blindly searching imageboards or even googling for it. This would be like spending your time now, so that you can save it in the future.

The reason why so much time is wasted when one browses blindly, there’s bound to be a lot of rubbish. Rubbish could be repeats, crappy quality images which you would never allow yourself to download, or even H-images, depending on how one decides what it is.

One thing worse than imageboards would be those forums where you have to reply in order to view the images, which you may or may not want to download. So far, I have only a Chinese Evangelion forum that uses this system. As I am too lazy to enable Chinese input, I reply merely with some short English phrases such as “Thank you”. Who cares if they don’t understand the language, I just want the pictures.

I am rather satisfied after replying to almost 50 threads, as I managed to find some old Gainax images. This was the only time I could find those FLCL images which imageboards would never contain. I just hope my account doesn’t get banned for spamming English in a Chinese Forum.

For those of you who want some Gainax images, you could register at the forum and start your very own Gainax image collection.

Speaking of Gainax images, the official Gainax website has a weekly picture update. For those interested, it would be a good idea to check it out. Some of the artwork sucks despite it being official art, but some are worth checking out.

Alright, enough of me ranting off like a machine gun on full auto. For more details about imageboards and related stuff, go over to Windbell’s comprehensive guide which he wrote a few thousand Internet years ago. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel.

Hunting images through imageboards is just like leveling your character in an MMORPG. It’s fun, addictive, satisfying but a time-consuming bitch. You could easily do a quick fill up of your image treasure chest with torrents, but nothing beats the fulfilling emotions when increasing your collection image by image.

So for those with a whole load of free time on your hands, what are you waiting for? Begin/Increase the growth of your image collection today.

P.S. I apologise for this post not igniting a similar nose bleeding aftermath which Windbell’s post provides.

From the the No-Man’s-Land of 4chan and all the other -chans out there… to the more specific ones like (e-shuushuu, other Japanese-hosted sites and AnimePaper), imagesboards are pretty much one of the best ways to keep your image folder healthy.

Though, where are you supposed to put in Danbooru and other sites similar to that? Image archive sites, perhaps? :D

I don’t really like Danbooru, as the advertisements there are often NSFW, so I can’t browse them during lessons.
