Majority of the otaku population are males, and they are what drives the otaku industry forward to greater heights. Hence, there is no doubt that the merchandise churned out feature attractive/moe/hawt female characters. This is a cold hard fact, especially for anime figurines. Even if the character is male, half of the time, he would be a gorgeous trap.

The market is clattered with a ton of Bishoujo goods, but it’s not that I’m complaining about it. This fact, however, makes it difficult to look for male figurines. When I mention male figurines, I mean those scaled ones, not those mini figurines that come with a mecha figurine, or those gashapon sized ones.
Immediately, you might be thinking, “WTF do you want male figurines for? Aren’t you a hotblooded male who only goes for bishoujos?”.
To begin, I have 2 policies when it comes to figurine purchasing. First, the figurine has to at least look decent. Second, the figurine must be of a character that I adore.
With this 2 principles in place, I’m not going to buy a figurine just because it’s aesthetically pleasing. If the character isn’t one whom I know off, or even a character that I dislike, I’m never going to put down any cash for it.
Everyone knows their favourite characters from watching anime, reading manga, playing games etc. In most of the media that you come in contact with, there are male characters. With this contact, there’s a possibility of you liking some male characters.
Wait, before your brain begins to flourish with dirty thought, let me state what form of like I mean. Like does not mean being sexually attracted to the character, but rather, it’s more of a respect for the character.

Some male characters are so damn cool, I want to get figurines of them. Imagine Kamina in his super GAR pose on your figurine shelf. That’s the kind of figurines I want, with cool poses that truly befit the character’s personality.Currently, my growing figurine collection consists of all but one Bishoujo figurines. That one thorn among the plastic roses would be Conan. I purchased him during my trip to Japan in 2006. It feels rather weird though, as he’s standing around a crowd of attractive ladies, graciously playing his violin. I think he’s feeling lonely.
Hence, I have decided to get him a companion.

Kaworu from Evangelion. Everyone remembers him as the homosexual who tried to seduce Shinji, but the actual fact is, Kaworu was the real victim. To me, Kaworu will always remain the noble angel who sacrificed his life for the sake of mankind. A worthy hero.
I haven’t seen any decent Kaworu figurines being released. The last one I saw had the fag Shinji included, so I passed on it. Who wants that loser anyway?

This time, Kotobukiya has decided this May to release a figurine of Kaworu worth spending money on. At a reasonable price of 5040yen, he has this splendid base which is a partial statue with angel wings. This absolutely suits the role he plays as an Angel. Also, Kaworu has the dazed look, which portrays him as a profound thinker. The black cat in his arms adds a rather nice touch to the whole feel.
I shall wait for preorders to open in local stores. Until then, it’s time to save up. I realised I have quite a number of figurines that are released at the same time.
Now, chances are, you think I’m either mentally unsound or sexually disorientated, especially since 95% of the people I come into contact with are guys. But I can confidently assure you, I am straight. At least I’m not into Boy’s Love or Yaoi.
No! I agree with you totally! There are as many male characters who are worthy of the PVC/ABS treatment, but they somehow don’t get to see light of day. So far, I’ve only seen One Piece and Bleach characters get produced but little else. ): It’s sad. I want moar male figures!
Hahaha, I’m thinking of getting Kaworu too, since he’s my favourite character from Eva. I need to balance out the overpopulation of Rei figures.
you got a point. But i shall not buy any male figurines 1st since i don have enough female figurines yet. and KAMINA FTW! hoho
Soshi > He’s a must get. And I think the cat’s removable.
Choo > Maybe you should consider traps figurines. Like Bridget.
Well I agree with you mostly about Kaworu-kun, Altho after seeing the new rebuild movie I rather like Shinji. it seems like shinji has gone from whiny to pissy, and thats kinda nice.
OH! one thing i forgot, there are some okay release Kaworu figures. the fist “Gainax” garage kit it really nice, however it was recalled do to a manufacturing error and never re-released, I have it and it has two right shoulders and no left one. there is also a nice portraits figure available in one of the newer sets, lucked out and got it in my first random box. there is also a ghashapon on the way that you can get from hlj.com it from the insert glossy spread of manga nine
Oh wow, there’s someone out there who actually agrees with me!
Honestly, I don’t really have much desire to collect random bishoujo figurines, but I would love to have a GAR looking Ginko or Kamina to set on my desk. And the only halfway decent male figures that get made are for shonen shows, Naruto, Bleach, et al. <_<
The only good Kamina is that Brothers Tienes figure, and as for Ginko… well Medicom makes one that makes me Cum Buckets it so HAWT…. no really not in that gay way but in the “damn thats kool” way….
CG > I can’t build Garage Kits >_> Currently, the only Kaworu figurine I have is a trading figure.
Orion > Yes, let’s get the GAR figurines.
Double, I cannot build them ether LOL!
…it’s even more sad for fangirls like me who long to see figurines of the bishies / GAR characters they love =/
with the assumption that most figurine creators are guys,
could it be because they have a certain prejudice… that perhaps they’ll lose some “manliness” if they create these male figurines, instead of girls? or perhaps they think the collectors are the one who have such a mentality… i don’t really know… o___O
usagijen > I think it’s the principal of supply and demand, but in this case, there isn’t much of a way to show the companies that there is a real demand for male figurines.
haha. I’m one such fangirl.
Anyway, what’s wrong with collecting favourite characters regardless of gender? I’m female and I collect female figurines if I like them in the anime. Hot body is a plus.
*shrugs*
