Evangelion And Pachinko

As we all know, Evangelion has been, is and will always be milked for cash by Gainax and it’s merry bunch of business partners. Almost anything you want can be found proudly branded by Evangelion.

Want some new clothes? Grab an Evangelion Cospa Tee. Hungry? Snack on some Evangelion Doritos while sipping on a can of chilled Evangelion UCC coffee. Want some new footwear? Purchase a pair of Evangelion slippers. Want some music? Get an Evangelion iPod. Bored and have nothing better to splurge your cash on? Try your hand at Evangelion Pachinko.

Speaking of Evangelion Panchiko, take a look at the latest CR Evangelion Pachinko commercial.

The whole CR Evangelion series started way back in December 2004. So far, a total of 3 pachinko series have been released, both in machine and PS2 game formats. A fourth release has been scheduled this month. CR新世紀エヴァンゲリオン 〜使徒、再び〜 is the name of the release, and it translates to CR Neon Genesis Evangelion ~Come lose more moolah on us you mindless n00bs~.

I kid. It actually means ~The Angels Are Back Again~.

Really, I’m amused how the Japanese can utilize anime as a form of branding for everything and anything, even gambling. Those gamblers who frequent pachinkos couldn’t care less about what machine they played on. Their only concern is whether they would win.

Pachinko is dumb, but if Evangelion fans want a budget version which would prevent them from losing a single cent, they can grab the PS2 copy of the older releases for a few thousand yen. Still, I wouldn’t recommend that, as your stupidity grows like a brain tumor each time you launch a ball into a pachinko machine, be it the physical or digital one. You would be better off rewatching Evangelion for the 52nd time.

The Second CR Evangelion Release

Well, at least the commercial was well-done. My favourite would be the second part where a group of people rush to the roof to view the battle between Eva Unit 01 and an Angel.

Although I do not approve the usage of one of my favourite anime series to promote gambling, it really isn’t all that bad. The brainless gamblers get their decorated money-sucking machines, while Evangelion fans get to view 3D Evangelion battle scene short clips which have totally no link to pachinko at absolutely no cost. Hurray!
