The Real Purposes of SaiGar and SaiMoe

Does anyone know the true meaning behind character competitions such as SaiGar and SaiMoe?

I seem to have thought of a few, and they aren’t exactly pleasing to the ears of fans of the above stated competitions.

If you are a fan who plans to defend the integrity of SaiGar/SaiMoe to the ends of the Earth, stop here and do not continue with this post. Else, you can continue reading on.

SaiMoe/SaiGar is a means of deriving ecstatic self pleasure and pride by observing your favourite character win the title of The Most GAR/MOE Character because you had a hand in it. In short, it is a process of enlarging your online ego, also known as e-penis. If the character you support wins, you can boast to the entire Internet about the greatness of your foresight, and about how you possess the ability to predict with precise accuracy who the winner is going to be, even before it began. At the same time, you can also declare that you have an oversized online appendage.

In order for you and other otakus who support the same character to commit such an act, your would require the support of each other. Concentrating your efforts by mass brainwashing the clueless masses to vote would be the way to go, thus ensuring that your prediction realises. If you look at it from a different angle, this is similar to a mass fap orgy, but in this case, an mass e-fap orgy. After all, those who vote are stroking each other’s appendages, and the one who’s character wins possesses the biggest and manliest one.

Take that, E-fappers!!!

Otaku A : “Oh noes!!! The GAR Simon I voted for got booted by GAY Shinji!!!”

Otaku B : “HAHA!!! I VOTED FOR UBER GAR SHINJI SINCE THE BEGINNING AND HE WINS SAIGAR!!! BOW DOWN TO MY FORESIGHT AND RESPECT MY GAR ANIME CHARACTER TASTES, NOOB!!!”

This brainless e-fapping, as I would call it, is a total waste of time. I don’t see anything to benefit from when the character whom you support is crowned victorious. There’s not even the slightest form of intellectual discussion, or even humor, but mere mindless clicking and recruiting of more people to join in the e-fap contest. I don’t see what see one can obtain out of this senseless voting, except the self-satisfaction and the possibly huge e-penis only recognised by similar people who participate in the voting spree. It appears that a lot of people on the net have way too much of their lives to burn away.

Revy’s bored, so she votes for herself in SaiGar and SaiMoe

Also, another purpose of SaiGar and SaiMoe is for blogging. Realise how many posts in AnimeNano are titled SaiGar/SaiMoe during the peak character GARness/Moeness battle seasons? It’s basically a mirror of those [Anime name] – [Episode number] type of summary posts. So instead of arid posts on anime episodes, bloggers get to post about some fan-made contest. This might be an advantage those who have suffered depression from blogging about anime episodes and desperate for a new topic to blog about before their site dies out like a supernova.

If you thought that anime episodic summaries were dry, SaiGar/SaiMoe posts are going to knock you out instantly. At least anime episodic posts have some form of content. I don’t see the point in posting about such competitions though, as the results are final, and more ranting or raving will not do a thing. Unless, of course, the blogger behind the post plans to start channeling more of his/her readers to join in the mass e-penis stroking sessions.

And lastly, it’s to show the epic otaku art of bandwagoning. One otaku does something new, a few others follow, and before anyone realises it, half the community is trailing behind, performing it like a historical otaku cultural custom. There’s no denying it, for we all know how factual this truth is.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is… SaiGar and SaiMoe is evil and sucks, so stop bothering to vote for it. You don’t need such competitions to show that your favourite character is the best. Just realising it within your heart would be the best way to show your love for the character. And no, enlarging your e-penis would not help a single bit in expressing your love for your beloved character.

P.S. Pardon my crappy writing, I’m feeling rather screwed up now, no thanks to my upcoming exams which I haven’t studied a single bit for. I am so going to die…

Isn’t blogging just another way to “stroke your e-penis”?
I think you made a bad generalization. I am voting in SaiGAR and I voted in Korean Best Moe (but not in SaiMoe because it was too bothersome). I like this kind of popularity contests. I see them as a means to support my favourite characters and to banter a bit with the supporters of the other characters. Think of it as a playful discussion between football fans.
Yes, there are people who take these things way too seriously, but we are not all like that.

Son Gohan > Yes blogging is, but it’s only a solo effort, not some mass e-fap orgy as mentioned.

And as long as things don’t go OVER 9000!!!, it’s not all that bad, I guess… Which isn’t always the case…

  3. 3 totali

but…but the characters are so moe…..and gar!!!!

  4. 4 Unknownymous

I voted for characters I felt were GAR too. But sometimes I vote for characters just because I like them more, even if they’re a little less GAR.

I don’t really care about foresight and stroking my e-penis or whatnot, but I do like stats and watching tournaments (like the NBA; I don’t live in any of the cities but I like cheering for something, so I pick some team, and see if they can win). I like seeing how the numbers can really make and break tournaments. Like some dude winning in the first round by only 5 points, then winning in a landslide in the next round. That sort of thing. I dunno. Call me geeky but it entertains me.

Well, I don’t think that everyone takes it seriously, some just vote for the fun of it. For example, it wouldn’t matter to me if say, Potemayo won SaiGar, it’ll just make for a good chuckle.

Though, I agree, SaiGar posts are like episodic reviews; they are mostly alike, however if bloggers add their own twist to it, it remains interesting.

gar? .. noo you got it wrong, you need a drill :P

“In short, it is a process of enlarging your online ego, also known as e-penis.”

Especially on an anonymous imageboard, yes.
Looks like your brilliant theory has fallen apart right at the start, too bad.

  8. 8 double

It hasn’t. Such contests are merely a tool for e-fapping. With online discussions regarding the outcomes of the contest such as forums, blogs etc., that’s when the e-fapping comes in.

For example : “Yeah, the character which I voted for won a stunning victory, this shows that my tastes are 1337!!!”

    >>Son Gohan > Yes blogging is, but it’s only a solo effort, not some mass e-fap orgy as mentioned.
So blogrolls are solo efforts? Aggregators like animenano are solo efforts? Pingbacks and trackbacks and such are solo efforts?

  10. 10 double

Blogrolls are solo efforts as a blogger links other blogs that he frequents as a form of respect to the other blogger. The other bloggers do not force him to link them. Everything is out of the blogger’s own will. By linking, he shows appreciation of the other blogger’s writing skills. I don’t think appreciation of others can be counted as a mass e-fap.

Aggregators such as animenano are to make life easier for the blog readers. With a ton of blogs out there, it would be difficult to find out who has updated and who hasn’t. This has nothing to do with e-fapping, it only makes the life on the internet slightly more convenient for everyone else.

Pingbacks and trackbacks can be turned off, but most bloggers don’t do it for a simple reason. Think of it as a free built in extension that has originally been activated. Why bother to turn it off when it is free anyway? It’s not as if turning it off or leaving it on would make any difference. All this is the result of the blogger being lazy. I don’t see how being lazy can be linked to mass e-fapping.

And on a final note, what’s up with all the anonymous comments in this post?

  11. 11 youreanidiot

Why are you so intent on proving this? Why do you think you know how everyone else thinks? I vote cause i like the characters. I’d find it entertaining to see the one I like best win. Simple as that.

  12. 12 StealthFire

the only thing you got right is in that all otaku culture started from bandwagoning.

You might know some really shallow/preteen otakus, but the rest of your blog doesn’t apply to very many.

  13. 13 minhtam2448

Hey, man, you know, SaiMoe hit the next level. Ever heard of the International Saimoe League? Yeah, rant in pain.

  14. 14 Bringerof_D

lol i dont think most real “otakus” vote for that reason. If you really bother to think about it Saimoe and Saigar are essentially anime versions of the Oscars moe/gar being the subcategories. In the Oscars you compare actors/actresses in their best rolls or musicians. well for some of us who dont like following media trash piles of who’s been in rehab and shaving all their hair off and who got fat and watch their movies, we watch anime and vote in Saimoe.

for me its just fun to see all the hot anime girls and compare them based on my preference of character profile and see how it matches up to the average otaku. (i think it’s alot healthier than gossiping about the latest celebrity scandal, modern celebs just dont set a good example for everyday folk) I’ve never personally looked at Saigar because it seems to be the kind of thing that just turns into a monkey Shi* fight over who can yell louder in how many episodes. i’d have to say though they shouldnt limit it to male characters since alot of female characters would fare pretty well in terms of gar.

i suggest you do some actual research into this subject, i suppose from the outside it may seem that way, but what do we think about people who make rant posts like this? we’d call you a troller, but of course from your end you’re simply writing what you see at the surface level. there is no Ultimate foresight factor in any of this and the people who think they have it usually get isolated as a troller and banned from forums, it’s all simply preference of a character archetype. i suppose if anyone has the right to brag about anything after any of these events would be the writers and the character artists

  15. 15 Bringerof_D

on another note by saying Saimoe/gar is Evil and sucks because of bandwagoning and or stroking of the e-penis for having voted for the winner, you’ve not only angered the fans of those events, but you’ve also indirectly insulted everything that requires a vote anywhere.

come to think of it wouldn’t EVERYTHING humans do either jumping on a bandwagon or jumping off to be rebellious therefore actually getting onto another one? so i can probably say the exact same things about you who are blogging blogging seems pretty popular right now it’s a “bandwagon” so to say. What about all the so called “normal” people who spend hundreds of dollars on a crappy piece of clothing which would fall apart after about a week worth only 10 dolars worth of materials and work just because it has a brand name written on it?
