Optimizing Time Spent on Watching Anime

Just like how a website needs to optimize itself for search engines, an otaku needs to optimize his time for watching anime.

Recently, I realised that the time I spent on anime has been diminishing. I rarely watch more than 2-3 episodes at home each day. The rest of the anime diet for the day were viewed on public transport. I blame this on nothing else but school and the dreaded exams. Speaking of which, I have only began on one of the four examinable subjects.

No pictures of hawt 2D girls watching anime, so 2D girls with books will have to do

Anyway, I shall cut the crap short and finish this before trying to cram another chapter of information security into my already overloaded brain.

For starters, the best way to maximize your anime viewing time would be to get a portable media player. That way, you can wisely utilize your traveling to and fro from work/school. There’s a whole lot of choices out in the IT market. Popular ones include Apple’s newest weapon, the iPod Touch, as well as the Creative Zen Vision W. Gaming devices such as the PSP and the DS work well too. Personally, I possess a Creative Zen Vision, which is equipped with a hell of a retarded reflective screen which is easily smudged by fingerprints. Also, did I mention the frequent screen freezes? I want an iPod Touch =(

It would be worthwhile to invest in a portable media device. Instead of purchasing a MP3 player, why not fork out an extra hundred bucks for another gadget which can play both mp3s and videos.? A portable media device can serve you for quite a few years if you treat it with love and care, so you might as well spend a little more to get something good rather than those cheapo China branded bootlegged “iPods”.

Like how Yuki reads everywhere she goes, you should watch anime in the same manner

One thing which I hate about portable media players is the stubborn output formats of videos. Creative’s media players can only read some videos that are in avi and wmv format. I have never used an iPod, but it should only read mp4 format. That leaves other formats such as mkv, rmvb (chinese fansubs just love it >_>) and ogg. I’m not sure what converting program is good, so I just the anime in this format out for mobile viewing. Man, there should be a multi-codec player… It would make life a lot easier.

Do not belittle the wonders of watching anime while traveling. It helps clear a backlog a tad slower than Yuki’s hacking. My trip to school and back takes a total of an hour and a half, so that’s about 4 episodes covered within one day’s traveling time.

Now that you have settled your mobile optimization, time to look at the static optimization, also known as watching anime on the PC.

Yuki distracts me from my anime watching habits

With the PC and the internet, there’s a whole lot of stuff waiting to be done. Anime is one of the entries on the list too. In that case, why don’t you split the queue of tasks into two, simply by dual-tasking? A good way to do that would be getting a secondary screen, preferably something that is larger than your primary. After all, it’s existence is merely for video watching while you go on with your routine.

Actually, I realised that besides these 2 factors, there is nothing else that you would need to do. Just these two alone would mean that you can watch anime anytime and anywhere, as long as you are awake, alive and kicking. If you have already gotten these 2, your daily anime intake should be rather healthy.

There’s one more last tip though, stop blogging about stuff related to anime and spend more time watching anime instead. This is one tip I should heed. Heh.

Lol, i’ve actually try watching anime in my phone but the format is 3GP and how the hell am i suppose to see the subtitles? =P ahaha well i still prefer to watch it on the computer or the TV. Portable media players are a good idea but they are just too small for me =S. Well if only we can watch anime in the cinema just like in Japan. XD

Get a laptop, it plays any format.
And the screen is bigger than the portable media players.
Oh, what format can be use on psp?

Busy work schedule made me resort to watching animes on my PSP now, while I ride the train. I always optimize my time, because I don’t want to waste about an hour of commute time just to… sleep or do nothing. Either I watch animes, or read mangas and novels XD

for a good converting program, I recommend Total Converter =3

wongtcsg > I have a laptop too, but it isn’t logical to use a laptop when you can’t get any seats. Plus laptops can probably last an hour or 2 at maximum.

usagijen > Total Converter eh.. I’ll check it out. Thanks =)

Ever since I got a car and stopped taking public transportation I stopped reading manga. The one hour commute each way was when I read manga, but now that work someplace where I needed a car I kind of need to pay attention to the road instead of finishing Berserk. It’s an odd twist that I had more time for manga when my commute was five times longer.

Argh, I forgot about the otakus who drive as their form of transport. Ack >_>

I’ve also found that my interest in watching anime is fading and i probably end up watching less than 10 eps a week, average. Over a year ago, when I started college, I attempted to read manga on the bus (over 2 hours a day traveling, 4 days a week) but I had read all of it at least once before so that coupled with the fact that it made me self-conscious (everyone on the bus goes to the same college, people who like anime are rare) made me stop.

Later on, I started playing my DS but that got boring after a few weeks too. Finally, I started reading novels (which I pretty much buy instead of manga now due to far much reading material for less money) which lasted a month or two. Now I just to listen music and zone out.. sometimes sleeping. I planned on getting an iPod Touch for watching anime on the bus but when I found out the PS3 was pretty much the same price, I got that.
