Last year, during the Playstation 3 launch in Singapore, I managed to purchase my very own 60GB set. At that point of time, there were only a few games out in the market.
This sucks. Period.
Gundam Musou was my very first PS3 game, and it came together with some limited release transparent gunpla, which I apparently screwed up. The first few plays were rather interesting, as hacking and slashing around with the different gundams had some fun factor. However, after a while, the whole game got boring and I eventually stopped. I have come to the conclusion that Gundam Musou is a stupid game. Fuck it. I want my money back!!!
I went on to purchase my second game, Resistance : Fall Of Man. It was not long before I got bored of the game too. Resistance does not suck, but I guess the lifespan of my attention is really short. Also, having problems with the PS3 wireless connectivity played a role in the death of my interest in the game.
One thing I hated about my PS3 set was the DVD region lock. I could only view Region 3 DVDs, but all the DVDs in my collection were Region 2. This sucks.

Anyway, with anime, school and other real life stuff going on, my PS3 was soon left in a corner. For almost 2 months, it existed only to collect dust. The lack of game releases that would catch my interest, as well as my anime consumption increment led to the sorry state of the gaming machine.
Just recently, a friend of mine, who is also a fellow PS3 owner, informed me about the horrors of leaving the PS3 untouched. Apparently, his PS3 was left aside for a month or so, and when he tried to boot it, it just would not start up. I immediately went back that same day to clean my PS3 and booted it. I was lucky. For those of you who have been neglecting your PS3s, please boot them frequently, or you might find yourself staring at an unpleasant surprise months after you decide you want to game.
I find myself regretting the early purchase of my PS3. I should have waited slightly longer for more games and a cheaper bundle to appear, but I guess I was greedy and impatient. However, since I have already bought it, I might as well use it to the fullest. Currently, I am eagerly awaiting Devil May Cry 4’s PS3 release on the 31st January 2008, which is just a few more days. From the game trailers, I am rather certain DMC4 would be keeping me and my PS3 busy during my upcoming 2 and a half months holiday which begins after next Wednesday.
Besides DMC4, I am looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Final Fanatasy XIII. Finally, all the kickass games arriving in 2008. I should have waited a year T.T

IcyStorm > They are available, but I didn’t have the financial capability to purchase any more games last year due to figurine purchases consuming all my budget. Also, I was out of sync with the PS3 game releases for quite some time, until recently. Some of the games you have named are rather to my interest though.
Currently, I have some extra cash, hence the DMC4 upcoming purchase. If I didn’t have the extra buck, I would probably have to skip DMC4 until I had the cash.
Do not, and I repeat, do not buy Orange box for the ps3. You can check comparisons between the 360 version versus the ps3, and the ps3 version of orange box has many framerate issues, slow down, and oddly enough, it looks worse than the 360 counterpart. That is an avoid at all costs. If you had to make a safe bet, CoD4 and Sigma would be the place to go if you consider buying any games from the last fiscal year.
I find it out that the ps3 would have issues when booted after having not been played for an extended period of time. That does not seem logical. I assume that perhaps something else happened to your ps3, as simply leaving hardware unattended for is not enough of a reason for it not to work. Most hardware will work after a long cold boot, and the ps3 should be no exception
I myself am going to probably buy a ps3 when said console becomes cheaper and includes bundles. Recently, sony announced that they have found a manufacturing method that will reduce the expenses to build ps3 by 50%. If so, hopefully the price of the console will also go down by some percent, though I highly doubt it will go as low as a 50% decrease.
Yay, someone else that has a PS3. I got it for the exact same reasons as you: DMC4, MGS4, FFXIII and FFvsXIII. Don’t you know that the DMC4 demo is available to download off the PSN now?
Also, I’ve found Uncharted and CoD4 to be great games which don’t get boring easily. In Uncharted’s case, the storyline and gameplay is appealing enough to want to complete it a few times and with CoD4 playing it online is pretty addicting. I can’t say the same about Ratchet & Clank which I found lacking in substance regardless of the high reviews it’s getting.

How can you give advice about something you’ve never actually seen before other than in comparison vids? Sure, reviews love to point out the fact that frame-rates slow down in the ps3 version sometimes and the loading times are long but people who have bought the game are commenting that it’s mostly exaggerated and occurs rarely. They’re still saying it’s one of the best games (compilation?) out, regardless. Do you really think it warrants giving the game a miss? Anyone who doesn’t have a 360 should at least get it on PS3 and I plan to. Besides, there’s the chance a patch may be released soon. Uncharted and Heavenly Sword are games that “could” be considered, especially Uncharted. it’s been a while since a game could keep my attention for more than 1 hour (how’s that for an extremely short attention span?)
the latest game i got was Assassin’s Creed - it’s good i guess but the damn game still freezes and locks up randomly (even after it’s patched). i want my money back! *flips table*
ah.. bad luck. If I were in your position I’d do anything I can to get it connected up as a lot of the PS3 games look like they’re going to have online features. Personally, I’d hate missing out on Metal Gear Online when MGS4 comes out. I suppose you’ve already tried things like forwarding router ports and turning your firewall off? And even if your PS3 is far away from your pc/router can’t you just get a really long network cable?
Also, Mirror’s Edge looks like it’s going to be an interesting game. It’s a first-person action game focused around movement, jumping etc. influenced by parkour/free running (search youtube).

I also purchased my PS3 on the release date (23 march here in oz).
I bought gundam musou also, and got bored after 3-4 weeks. I enjoyed ninja gaiden alot tho, After I finished that game, I use my ps3 mostly just to watch blu-ray and play ps2 games…
until Agarest Senki was released (end of september 07), So far I’ve spent more than 200hours on that game, and still playing it right now…. (the game is fun, and also moe.. :p) my next anticipated game is disgaea 3 (this game should be more moe than agarest senki
and I can see myself playing this game for more than 6 months, lvl 9999 yay!)
I also enjoy playing eye of judgment and singstar (when friends come over ^^)
I’m still unsure about buying DMC4 or not, because I don’t really like that kind of game (well I bought Ninja gaiden because of game drought :p)
