Animax And A Retarded Idea

I have cable TV, but unfortunately, my cable TV does not include subscription to Animax. It’s not a big deal, since I spend most of my time at home facing my computer. The only time I watch TV is when I have my meals in the living room. It doesn’t bother me that my parents decide to forgo subscription to Animax, but it does bother my sister.

Since my parents would rather spend money on Channel VV which airs Taiwan, Hongkong and Korean but no Japanese dramas, instead of allowing my sister to get her desired channel, my sister has thought of an idea that is so unique, I wouldn’t even have thought of it. Her determination to view Animax far exceeds my imagination.

Here’s how she does it:

She uses the mosaic function to view multiple channels at once. There’s a loophole with this function, or so she says. All channels can be viewed, even if you do not subscribe to them. From there, she scrolls down until she arrives at the small video box in which Animax is airing. Now that there are both sound and video, and she sits closer to the TV, squinting her eyes so that she can watch her favourite Gakuen Alice airing in that small confinement.

When I first saw how she did this during lunch at home a few days ago, I lost all my appetite to my laughter. Seriously, trust her to think of something like that. And to think she has a 15″ laptop with Internet connection…

Hey look!!! It’s Slam Dunk!!!

There’s a flaw with this method. The anime would be dubbed over. If I’m not wrong, you would have to be in full screen mode before you can change the audio channels. However, she isn’t particular about the anime being dubbed over or having the original japanese seiyuu voices, so I guess it doesn’t matter to her. After all, it’s free anime.

Those who are really desperate for a certain channel on cable TV might want to try this out at the risk of overstraining your eyes. As for me, I’m contented with my computer.

That is the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. Do her a favour, write a script that downloads the series that Animax shows, 24/7. It’ll be a few hours behind, but hey, she’ll be happy you tried.

    Just download that shit.

LOL. haha i got animax in my cable tv or also known as Astro. XD 1 episode per day really kills my patience.

The mere thought of watching TV like that makes my eyes ache.

How about placing a magnifying lens like those pla modellers use to assemble the tiny parts or for soldering purpose? That can alleviate eye strain

    ritchan > LOL

l-lawliet > You should too, if you haven’t been doing that lol

Choo > I can’t stand watching anime according to TV schedule. Kills the mood >_>

IKnight > And my sister actually did that for a couple of episodes…

    0ne > I’ll tell her that.

hook it up to a computer.
realtime cropping and resizing should make the image big enough to watch.

Since you mentioned Animax, let me do a very big service to your sister:

Do not want. (a.k.a. Don’t recommend your sister Animax.)

Animax has failed, at least in my brother’s POV, because he grew up during AXN’s frequent showing of anime, and sometimes they had marathon of anime for some days. Well, that was back before Animax hit our shores.

I think he lamented how good shows never get to be shown here, instead being relegated to that Chinese channel on Ch 56. Animax, despite its high profile and noble attempts in bringing anime in Singapore, once they cut the Japanese with English subs 2 years back, he never bothered to watch Animax again.

So let me tell you again, forget Animax. Because downloading “is free.”

Since it’s not licensed, lolipower.org has all the eps of Gakuen Alice (just checked, DDL #3) with really fast downloads. Why don’t you just put them all on a data-dvd for her to watch on her laptop? That’s what I do for my brother, though he uses the ps3 as his PC’s dead.

I’ve got animax here already included with the cable subscription… but don’t really watch that much… I’ve already watched most of the show there, and the fact that it was being dubbed, it sucked.

    That… sounds terrible.

But at least there is anime on TV. I don’t have any anime on TV.

  13. 13 ritchan

Ah, AXN. Too bad they only had a few series going. Let me try to recall some:
Gatekeepers, Sakura Wars (yay!), Edens Bowy… that’s all I suppose.

  14. 14 ritchan

AXN already stopped showing anime, right? I was really disappointed. I hated everything else they showed.

TP > Not that she would listen anyway.

Mark > Thanks for the link, but apparently

Lolipower is currently not serving Singapore.
    Please use another DDL site.

    LOL

oh noes! now that you have revealed this super secret, the cable tv company will find ways to counter this loophole!

but goodness… I don’t know if I’ll applaud your sister’s determination or what o_o though, I think I’ve found myself doing some stupidly clever things too, in the past…

I still watch Animax from time to time. I find it convenient to just sit through an episode of a series each day, especially during mealtime when I’m afk.

Actually, not all of Animax’s shows suck. Fate/Stay Night and Jyu Oh Sei were satisfactory [to me, at least]. Haha. Although, i do miss AXN from time to time since that’s where i first got addicted to anime. Ah, Fushigi Yuugi, Ayashi No Ceres, Rurouni Kenshin, El Hazard, Rave Groove Adventure…those were the days. XD
