I don’t think anime drive is the appropriate phrase to use here, since it sounds weird. Anyway, it’s use to describe the motivation and desire to watch anime. Just think of sex drive if you don’t get it.

Now you got all excited? But I’m not covering anything remotely related to sex drive. It’s ANIME DRIVE!!!
To start off, I shall use a personal example as an explanation. Sheez, I always use personal examples.
For the past few weeks I had an exceptionally high anime drive, especially last week. For a few days last week, I watched a daily average of 1 season (26 episodes), as well as some other loose episodes, which total up to roughly 30 episodes a day. That’s about more than 10 hours a day. Now, before some comment on how little that is, there’s a catch. It was during the examination week. While the rest of my friends were busy studying, I was busy too. Marathoning Major and some other anime series, that is. If only they had an exam on Major.

However, now that my examinations have ended just yesterday, this drive has suddenly vanished into thin air. All of a sudden, I don’t feel as motivated as before to watch anime. I still watch about 12-15 episodes a day, but that’s like half of what I used to watch. And I’m supposed to be so free that I could watch anime for as long as I am awake.
It seems that the desire to watch anime only pops in during crucial periods such as examination periods, when watching anime and having fun should be the last thing on everyone’s mind, and studying to obtain a good grade the first. This isn’t the first time this has happened. 2 years ago, during a rather major exam, the ‘O’ levels, I was marathoning Black Lagoon. For the past few exams in polytechnic, I couldn’t really remember myself studying. All I remembered was anime and manga. Of course, my grades didn’t turn out as expected, with this exam being no exception. Heh, you can say I’m pretty screwed.

I need a study partner
It might be that I’m lazy, but it seems that when the exams arrive, I lose all motivation to even pick up the textbook or read the powerpoint slides. All that I want to do is watch anime.
Actually, I think there is a reason as to why such thing occur. It seems that I always choose the study period to begin on action packed, high-spirited anime. Those are the kinds of anime that act similar to drugs. The more you watch, the more you want. And the reason as to why I lose my anime drive immediately after the exams is because I finish such awesome anime during the exams. Usually, I’m left without anything that is at least on par or even greater than the series I completed.

Ren’s quite hawt
Currently, I’m watching Erementar Gerad. It’s an average anime, but compared to awesome stuff such as Major which brought my emotions on a rollercoaster ride, it’s no big deal. I think I need help in getting my anime drive back. Any anime recommendations that are addictive enough to revive the anime drive?
To end off, I am rather curious about the anime drive of various anime fans. Under what circumstances do you usually have a high or low anime drive? Or is yours constantly average?
It definitely comes and goes. Depends on how bored I get with the Internet. Usually when I watch more anime, I’m barely online. Or if for some reason I get more active online I can go weeks without watching any. Most of the time I only watch anime on the weekend anyway. Internets only disrupt the Monday thru Friday watching.
Wow, you choose to get an anime drive at the wrong periods of the time… what are you, a dojikko?
In regards to the topic at hand,
sexanime drive is a good thing, depending on circumstances and events. I would say my drive will proportionate to periods of shows I’m currently watching in earnest. E.g. Gundam 00 is broadcasted every Saturdays, so 2 days before or after the said day, I will get this “drive” to watch anime. For me, if there are no good shows, it’s usually Saturdays and Tuesdays, because Saturdays is a chill-out day (for me), and Tuesdays… well, I dunno why I like Tuesdays.
Actually, same. I blog, read manga and watch anime a lot more during times when I should be studying.
Why do we otaku(s) hang around our fantasies at a crucial times as having an exam, doing things related to the real world, etc…
and anime & figure collecting boosts my drive and motivated to learn new things related to webpage designing and coding… weird.. no relevance in it.
It really depends…
If I really get into a series early on, my drive will be high, like right now I’m watching Fate/stay night and it’s freaking awesome. Shuffle! on the other hand, let my drive become really low and I watched an episode like every 2 days.
super rats > It’s a good thing I have 2 screens, so I can watch and surf the net at the same time, if I want.
TP > It just feels really good to slack of just before and during your exams.
tj_han > I do everything except study during exam periods. Studying for each paper would be last minute cramming.
samejima >Otakus are weird. I’m weird, you’re weird, we’re all weird.
Icystorm > My anime drive wasn’t that high when I watched FS/N. It was much higher when I marathoned stuff like Black Lagoon and Full Metal Panic. There has got to be guns!!!
watching animes is a form of escapism after all, so the drive you have probably stems from wanting to escape that certain reality aspect.
My anime/manga drive way back in college would be when I feel like taking a break from studying or making a project, or when I feel like I still have plenty of time to spare for those academic stuff. Or when I’m just plain bored. Otherwise, I’m pretty academics-oriented (though still a slacker most of the time… I just get “surges” of academic desires).
If you ever feel like taking a break from the usual animes, the action and moe, do give Tokyo Marble Chocolate (OAV) a try, though I’m not sure if romance stuff like this is your cup of tea
Otherwise, the drive-giving animes I can think of are all of the sports-genre…

I really like Fs/n, so it just depends on what you’re interested in. Mecha and you get into TTGL or something? Yeah, your anime drive will likely be high. That’s what I was saying =P
