Runner ups include Dennou Coil and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I have not watched Dennou Coil, so I wouldn’t know much about it, except that it has gotten quite a handful of positive comments. Gurren Lagann is self-explanatory. Watch it if you have yet to do so.
And for those curious cats out there, the winner for this award last year (2007) was Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo. Runner ups were Code Geass, Haruhi and Death Note.

This marks a great start to the 4 part Evangelion movie. I am so looking forward to the second movie. Too bad I will probably not be able to watch it, as it has not yet been announced for release.
Anyway, speaking of TAF 2008, maybe I should make some time to go for it.
I didn’t think it was really that much of an improvement over the original Evangelion. Some characters were thrown by the side (like Shinji’s classmates) so it really doesn’t give that ‘warm, happy, ordinary (relatively) life goes freaky when Kaji gets killed, Asuka goes psycho and Shinji just becomes his true self’ feel.
But I’ll have to watch the rest to see if they’re really going to keep it like this.
Yay for more Evangelion! I haven’t watched 1.0 yet, so I can’t really say much though.
I think it’s unsurprising that a movie (especially one that likely has a huge budget) like Eva would win out in the animation department, though I’m sure Gurren Lagann came close.
I’ll probably wait till my computer can support HD before finishing Dennou Coil though what I’ve seen (the first half) was pretty good.
It sounds like they haven’t seen Kara no Kyoukai though, as I’ve heard it’s amazing and even better than Eva 1.0. (sorry ;P)
