One thing that I really like about Major are the theme songs. Specifically, the opening theme songs. I realised that I always skipped the ending theme songs for a two reasons. They don’t sound good on the first hearing, and I’m too impatient to wait an extra minute or so before I go on to the next episode.

Actually, this post is going to be mostly on Road of Major, the band which performed the OPs for the first three seasons of Major. After all, I did say that I skipped most of the EDs, so I can’t really say much about them.
For those who don’t know, the songs that Road of Major did were Kokoroe, Saraba Aoki Omokage and PLAY THE GAME, in the order of the seasons.
Personally, I felt that Kokoroe was the best of the trio. The tune was rather simple, and so were the lyrics. However, I felt that it left a greater impact on me as compared to the other 2 songs. Saraba Aoki Omokage was above decent, but it took a few repeats before I actually started liking it. As for PLAY THE GAME, I thought it was an average song which didn’t really stand out much. In fact, I didn’t really like it, even till now.

Looking at it, I’ve realised that Road of Major’s songs were degrading with time. Of course, that is purely my personal opinion. Perhaps I might be a little too critical, but I felt that the few really awesome songs which I can loop on and on for hours are Kokoroe and Tasetsu na Mono, a non-anime related song and their first maxi single. The rest of the songs are of a rather decent level, and could probably last for 10 loops before they are out of the play list.
A piece of advice, do not, I repeat, do not watch the PV of PLAY THE GAME. It’s so freaking dumb that my opinion of the song dropped even further after watching it.
Enough of Road of Major for now. Let’s talk about Major Season 4’s music instead. The OP, Rise is performed by Ootomo Kohei. I was rather surprised that Road of Major did not continue contributing OPs like what they have been doing for 3 seasons. I was hoping that they would do the OP, but it seems that they have been rather inactive with their new releases.
I don’t really have much to comment about the song. The only unique thing is the vocals, which sounded really coarse, like the artiste ate too much crackers or something. I’m not saying that it is a pain to the ears. It just takes a little more time to get used to. My liking for the song increased after a couple of episodes.

Sorry, I couldn’t find any youtube video for the ED
And now for the ED, One Day by The Loose Dogs, who also did the ED, Yoru ni Nareba for Major Season 3. Weird name for a group, but considering I like bands with names such as Bump of Chicken, I guess it’s quite normal. Anyway, I was hooked after my first listen, so I make it a point to listen to the ED for each episode. I’m so getting the maxi single when it’s released on 5th March.
On the whole, the music of Major does make watching the show more enjoyable, not that it isn’t enjoyable enough as it is. Baseball, decent music and tear-jerking moments. What more can I ask for?

One day was one of my faves.
Keep going with the good blogs man!
i agree with everything u’ve said. i was like that too. i dont listen to the ops or eds but after hearing it accidently, it got me hooked. not only the music is awesome, the lyrics is great too–especially the eds. YORU NI NAREBA left a huge impact to me. the mv is just great. it makes me teary everytime i see that ed. i wish the 4th season’s ed had pics other than the backgrounds coz the song was awesome too. they just keep dedicating the songs for goro’s dad and i love it. it’s sad but that’s life.
great review!
