Hurray, the artistes that I was rooting for won in the various categories!

First up, my favourite Japanese band, Bump of Chicken. Their song 花の名 (Hana no Na), won not in one, and not in two, but in three categories! They are namely Best Video of The Year, Best Your Choice and Best Group Video. In Best Group Video, they were up against other brilliant contenders such as Dragon Ash and Mr Children, but their ever-awesome musical standards allowed them to bask in glorious victory. Despite not being a veteran fan of Bump of Chicken as I only started tuning into their melodies in 2006, I am extremely proud of their achievements in this year’s MVA.

Hana no Na is a absolutely terrific, and you should listen to it if you have not done so. Both the melody and lyrics are simple and kept to the basics, yet the presence of a great meaning within it.
花の名
My favourite line, 「生きる力を借りたから 生きている内に返さなきゃ」, which roughly translates to “Because I borrowed the power to live, I have to give it back while I am alive”. It’s amazing how Motoo Fujiwara manages to come up with such simple yet meaningful lyrics.

The next artiste of mention is 9mm Parabellum Bullet, and they won in the Best New Artist Video category with their song, Discommunication. As stated in a pre-MVA ‘08 entry, I was almost certain that 9mm would win due to the gaping difference in the musical standards between them and the other nominees. Now to look forward to 9mm’s new double A-side single, Supernova/Wanderland. I can’t wait!

The last artiste that I was rooting for is Asian Kungfu Generation, often known as Ajikan among fans. I didn’t listen to any other nominated artistes in the same catergory, Best Rock Video, so I do not have the slighest clue as to how strong the competition really was. Still, I’m glad that they won, although After Dark wasn’t exactly one of their best songs. Their newly released album World World World features an entire album of really great songs. In my opinion, it is one of their best albums so far, with the standards on par with Kimi Tsunagi Five M.
That’s all for my favourite artistes.

For those YUI fans out there, rejoice. Your idol has done herself and her fans proud in Best Pop Video. Orange Range was in the same category too, but there could have only been one winner. Sorry, Orange Range fans.
The rest of the categories are rather unfamiliar to me, so I shall not mention anything else about them lest I make a fool out of myself. It shows how shallowly immersed I am in Japanese music.

And with this, I conclude my MVA 2008 rant. I’m looking forward to MVA ‘09 next year!
