Shinjuku And The Byousoku Trail

Here’s Day 3 of Japan. We went to a number of places today, and covered quite some distance.

Since Windbell did a post on the Byousoku 5cm spots in real life, there’s no point in reinventing the wheel. Hence, I wouldn’t be posting the same stuff he posted half a year ago. Instead, I’ll just post whatever photos I have taken and leave it for you to find out which part of Byousoku 5cm it appears in.

Actually, I’m just lazy and I didn’t bring any pictures along with me during the journey, so I wasn’t exactly sure of what to look out for. But hey, now you’ll get a mix of Byousoku and non-Byousoku photos, and it’ll be like some spotting game. Sounds fun right?

Familiar, isn’t it. Everyone who has watched Byousoku 5cm would definitely know of this place. Now, that’s too easy for everyone. Let’s start from Shinjuku.

Here goes!

First thing that greeted me when I stepped out of the subway station

Quiet road traffic on a Tuesday afternoon

This looks so much better than Singapore’s Raffles Place

cimg46951.jpg
I love the design of this building

cimg46981.jpg
Looks like a rocket of some sort

cimg46991.jpg
The wind was really strong so bicycles were being blown over

Shinjuku Station

Does this taxi stand look familiar?

cimg47271.jpg
The clock tower. Too bad I didn’t take a photo of it in the same manner it was portrayed in Byousoku

cimg47241.jpg
DONUTS!!! Look at the queue!

cimg47331.jpg
The weather was pleasant and sitting out in the open would be really relaxing

Shinjuku’s railways

Somewhere near the station

cimg47301.jpg
Was this scene in Byousoku?

Sea of humans

After an hour or 2 at Shinjuku, we took the Yamanote line over to Harajuku. From there we took a stroll through Yoyogi park, where the sakuras were blooming too. Yoyogi park’s hanami will be covered in the next post, since this post is far too congested with images.

This shot didn’t turn out like what I wanted. I need to find out how to focus more on the stone wall, and less on the surroundings

cimg47711.jpg
We’re in the residential district

cimg47741.jpg
I remember seeing this somewhere…

Rails from the perspective of the train

cimg47781.jpg
Short buildings and the nice blue sky

Train coming through!

This was the park where Windbell got mistaken for a lolicon when he tried to take a picture of a little girl

Yet another familiar shot?

cimg47971.jpg
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is in Byousoku too right?

cimg48051.jpg
This can be a Byousoku scene too!

cimg48151.jpg
The overhead wires make the background of the area look really messy

Stop!

cimg48191.jpg
Go over 30km/h and crash right into the wall

cimg48221.jpg
Entrance to some temple, I suppose

cimg48251.jpg
I’m not sure if I saw this in Byousoku, but apparently, Windbell says it is

cimg48301.jpg
Yellow house, white car

cimg48321.jpg
No Chobi-chan, but here’s the best I could find

cimg48381.jpg
This dog’s rather cute

cimg48341.jpg
The paintings on the walls should have been done by preschoolers, I think

And this concludes our 1 day trip to the various places featured and not featured in Byousoku 5cm. It gave a really good feel to see some of the places in real life, especially the first photo in the post. Just it alone made the whole day’s journey worthwhile. Those going to Tokyo should embark on this adventure too!

It was a pity that we could only cover a few areas as the rest of the places were a little too far.

I have still left out what we did in Harajuku at Yoyogi park. It was basically similar to Ueno park, but this time with a much larger crowd and more greenery. Time to upload more pictures!

Pretty sure some of those scenes were from Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho instead. Nice pics. Also, that cat looked like it was pissed by your taking pics of it. Dignity!

I protest against 30 km/h and crashing into the wall. On a bike (a good one) I think 50-60 is possible. But yes you risk getting awesomely pwned in the process.

Awaiting more pics and updates. :)

You’re lucky that you managed to catch the sakura season while on the Byosoku 5cm trail.

    Panther > Stay tuned.

One > Yea, I’m really lucky. Now that’s one thing off my list of things to do before I die.
