Played a role in Kaiji’s storyline.
Remember the old geezer Chairman?
I didn’t actually think of this until the Chairman shared the stage with Kaiji during his tissue box showdown. After all, the whole focus was mainly on Kaiji, his ear and Tonegawa.
The Chairman revealed his name to be Hyodo Kazutaka. What a crappy name that is, his name should have been Akagi Shigeru! Now, before you start laughing your ass off at my opinion, hear me out as to why I’ve such a thought.
Akagi’s storyline began in 1958, 13 years after the Pacific War, while all of Kaiji’s events began in 1997, 2 years after he graduated from high school. Akagi was 13 years old in 1958, so he should be in his 52 at the point of Kaiji’s period. The Chairman definitely looks much older than his 50s. I’m guessing that he’s probably in his 70s or 80s, so it would be a little tough fitting Akagi into the role of the Chairman.
What if Akagi was prematurely aging due his intensive brain cell usage, and looked his 70s or 80s by the time he in his 50s? That might be highly possible, and hence allow him to fit into the role physically.
What about his mentality? Akagi was a composed youngster who would only place massive wagers. He wasn’t anything like the Chairman is now. However, people change. 39 years is a long time, long enough for a composed young mahjong master to be bored of all his gambling battles and wealth to turn into a sadistic thrill seeking old fart.
Sadly, all this can never come true since the Akagi manga still running strong, together with Kaiji, and the current Kaiji storyline should be miles away from where the anime’s at. Still, it would be totally mind-blowing if Akagi appeared in Kaiji’s storyline, just like how Kaitou Kid appears in Detective Conan’s storyline.
On another note, I wonder when the second season of Kaiji will be released. I’m really looking forward to see how Kaiji gets back at the Chairman. Maybe I should just pick up the manga instead of just waiting for the new season.
I happen to have the third season manga raws (I don’t know how). I don’t want to read them, because I can’t understand the Japanese language. If it was ever translated, I would go on the manga in a heartbeat. (Or buy it if I can. It’s just that awesome)
Really interesting theory, I enjoyed reading it. however I suggest you do some research on the manga “Ten”. It is not known by many, but Akagi’s character originally appeared in a different manga by the author. There it is explained what Akagi is doing in his old age.
Oh and the manga for Kaiji has been completed actually
I want a season two of both Kaiji and Akagi.
Is Akagi good to watch even if you haven’t got a clue about mahjong?
I like Kaiji but I find that each ‘task’ doesn’t really get interesting till near the end where he actually comes up with some unique ideas.
The ending of the first season has been really disappointing. They’re playing a lucky dip with a bunch of tissue paper and since he’s not a relatable character, I don’t really care if he loses all of his money and four fingers.. (the last ep hasn’t been subbed yet)
ikk > Kaiji’s manga has ended? I didn’t know that. And as for “Ten”, I’ve heard a little about it before, but I could never find it.
Adun > Kaiji’s definitely having a season 2. As for Akagi, I doubt there will be any.

I felt that some of Kaiji’s episodes were rather draggy, especially those episodes where there’s all talk an no action.
No. I won’t watch Akagi because I don’t want to learn Mah Jong…haha..My friends had been introducing me to watch it.

I personally learned mahjong after watching Akagi cause it left me with interest^^
BTW, I don’t think that Akagi would rot to this level. But it would be certainly interesting to see him meet with Kaiji = timeline fits it.
i think in charactesr i like a lot more akagi and that akagi its better than kaiji, its just that i like how akagi is fearless and the way he defeats his enemies its always great

but i just watched episode 2 from kaiji and he´s just a loser after what i´ve seen. Maybe he change in the anime i don´t know but i prefer Akagi.
But if Akagi would appear in Kaiji i would diffently watch kaiji : P
