I’ve Always Wonder How It Feels To Be A Resident Of Akihabara

On our last day in Japan, we headed to Akihabara for a last stroll before departing for the airport. With no purchasing intention of any sort, we combed the streets armed with our cameras. All the photos I took aren’t of any importance, since you’ve probably seen various photos of the otaku areas in Akihabara all over the interwebs.

Apartments in the Otaku’s Holy Land

This was the only photo that started me thinking about how it would feel to live in an apartment in Akihabara, probably just a lane away from all the treasures.

If one is living in a normal district, one would probably say “I’m going to the nearby convenience store or eatery to grab a bite” when he/she leaves the home to get something in the district. However, I wonder if living in Akihabara would change this statement. I’m guessing it’ll probably be “I’m going to grab a bite at the nearby meido cafe, and at the same time, I’ll grab a copy of the latest game/manga/cd/dvd/eroge too”.

The demons of temptation will also be included in the apartment renting/purchasing package. With the latest arrivals just next door, it’s hard to keep your itching hands clear from all the merchandise. Then again, all the excitement of living in the heart of Akihabara might die down and it’ll just feel like any other day in Akihabara, just as how 0ne explains.

Your neighborhood if you live in Akihabara

Personally, I’m not too fond of living in Akihabara, despite the convinient access to all the goodies. Living in a normal district still seems like a much appealing choice to me, if I ever get my chance to live in Japan. I think that my decision’s influenced by the fact that I’ve been to Akihabara a couple of times, and with each visit, it somehow feels as though I’m strolling around in a familiar neighborhood. It’s always better to be in a new exciting environment, rather than sticking with the same old place, don’t you think?

Still, I’m curious about what others think of this. How many of you would want to live in an apartment in Akihabara?

I doubt I’ll like a place around Akihabara. I would definitely prefer somewhere around Ueno or along Sumida River. Though if I really could live anywhere in Japan, off to Hakodate in Hokkaido for me!!

I’d definitely have to live outside of Akihabara. Probably cheaper too.

Hirito > Hakodate’s a nice place. Been there once 2 years ago during winter, and it was the best winter experience I had ever. The snowy landscape of the town was simply brilliant.

Caitlin > Anywhere in Tokyo should be rather costly, I think.

KesenaiTsumi > Yikes, I didn’t notice that typo error. I’ve corrected it already. Thanks for the heads up.
