The Summer Of Love : Room Of An Otaku

There’s nothing named First Summer of Love, only the Summer of Love and the Second Summer of love, but what the heck, it’s the first even if it doesn’t have First in its name, since it definitely isn’t the third.

Anyway, for those curious as to why I chose this as the title, it’s First because this will be the first year I’m documenting my room for future archive usage, ever since I plunged into the never-ending spiral of anime merchandise purchasing, Summer because it’s so darn hot here in freaking Singapore, and Love because moe… Whatever. Anime references with numbers in them sure aren’t easy to find. And what’s up with this cheesiness?!

Disclaimer : The author is no music buff, but only some geek who can reference to anime that references to the real Summer of Love.

As usual, I shall begin with the typical shot from the door. Click on the pictures for a larger image.

Bah, I’m too lazy to pack my bed

The most colourful wall in my room, plastered with shitajikis, posters and wallscrolls

A look at the wall by the side. Look, it’s Rei!

This is where I spend 95% of my time at home. There’s an ass-flasher figurine for some fanservice

Shitaijiki collage. My goal is an entire wall plastered with these slices of plastic

A dump pile for my studying materials. Look closely to see what you can find.

As you can see, my desk isn’t very neat. Similarly with my bed, I can’t really be arsed to pack it. Since I’m going to spend majority of my time at home seated here, there’s no point in packing. It’ll revert back to it’s original state after a couple of days anyway. Time is better spent doing more productive things such as watching anime, surfing the net, or even updating this website.

Here comes the interesting part, the shelves

The wooden shelf with the 2 doors is where majority of my collection goes in. The Ikea Detolf on the right’s the Evangelion tower, which contains Rei, a little bit of Asuka that comes together with the Rei purchases, Rei and more Rei. Maybe I should just name it Nerv.

Top level of the Evangelion Tower

Level 2 from the top

Level 3 from the top

The base level. Stuff that can’t be displayed gets chucked here

With so many Reis here, the Detolf has the highest concentration of A.T. field. As much as I hate to display Asuka with Rei, it must be understood that Asuka is only there to enhance Rei’s beauty. The tower’s going to be overpopulated soon, so I am considering expanding Nerv with a second Detolf. But first, I’ll have to find a spot in my room for the new branch.

Top shelves of the cabinet

The top layer can last me for quite some time, but I might have to get an expansion base for the CD shelf soon. It’s more than half filled, and I still have a whole lot of CDs purchases planned. Level 3 is a mini Evangelion corner. At long last, I’ve finally managed to complete my Apostle collection by Wave, with all the normal figurines and the 2 limited releases. The Evangelion trading figures are crap, and I only bought them in sets so that I could get all the Rei ones.

Mid-level shelves

A few more figurines, and some reading materials. I have a whole lot of Chinese manga which are currently stored in my sister’s room. The One Piece mangas will go over next door soon too, once I require more space.

Bottom shelves

DVDs, artbooks and some random stuff here. Can you spot the dirty treasures?

My clothes closet with nothing interesting within. Just a couple of Cospa shirts, that’s all

The other side of my room

More Evangelion wallscrolls. Sorry that I’m such a fanboy. My wall has sucky paint, so the FMP poster has fallen countless of times and sustained damage. One thing I’ve noticed is that my posters have a tendency to drop off at night. Strange.

More figurines here too, so let’s take a closer look at that shelf.

Revy’s freaking hawt

The Saber plushie is freaking cute

Manly drills and everyday otakus

This shelf’s position has been fixed here every since I began collecting anime merchandise. The other shelf had to come to down to make way for the bed. That means less storage space for me, which is bad.

I know that many fellow otakus often face the problem of storing figurine boxes. Hence, I shall share with you a method of box storage. It’s simple, blends in and acts as decent decoration.

I play tetris,

and everytime a new figurine arrives,

I add the box to the stack

Now that you’ve learnt this method, try it out too. It’s awesome in places where you have some space but can’t do anything with that space.

Anyway, that was my swim wear figurine collection. And my Battle Royale collection which has been at that size for ages.

As you can see, a couple of things have been swapped. The fugly grey thing which I used to store all my loot in has been passed on to my sister, and in its place is the new white cabinet. I no longer sleep on that retarded mattress, but on a proper bed. The secondary screen has been upgraded from a 17″ to a 26″ HD-ready TV. There are a couple of minor changes to, but I can’t seem to remember them since they’re overly insignificant.

That’s all for my room. Nothing impressive compared to what some animebloggers have in their crazy rooms. Those guys are insane, I tell you. Still, it has the cozy feel with a tinge of Moe and I like it for that. My only complaint is space. It seems like I may need to invade the living room soon.

Check back next year for the Second Summer of Love. In the meantime, you can check out some pathetic pictures in long before the Summer of Love began.

    Oh my I hope you don’t bring females over into your room unless they are big eva fangirls too. xD;;;

  2. 2 Adun

So much Eva merchandise. Well I must certainly say at least you have a good amount of space between your bed and desk. I have very little space in my room.

  3. 3 eipu

oh, gosh, i love your room!

i saw an oofuri shijitaki ^^ And i loved the genshiken crew figurine!

  4. 4 gordon

your room looks big. that’s good cos can put in more shelves for figures. i’m sharing my room with my brother so can’t put shelves inside me room.

and i see that u have bought kotobukiya rei and misato as well but how come i didn’t see u taking photos of them and uploading them to your blog? :)

  5. 5 IcyStorm

My God, your room is what my dreams (with more variety rather than Eva everywhere) are made of. All I have are a wallscroll, two posters, 5 figures, and some manga. Nothing more D:

  6. 6 The Sojourner

Hmmm so who is your favourite anime girl? =p

You sure have come a long way since then.

Hinano > There are no females who I can bring over, so what’s in the room stays in the room.

Adun > I have no idea what to do what that space, since I can’t put anything there.

    eipu > I have a Oofuri B2 poster too!

gordon > I’ve been too lazy to take pictures of my PVC loot.

IcyStorm > I would like some variation, but apparently, the brain doesn’t comply.

The Sojourner > Isn’t it obvious who my favourite is? LOL

  8. 8 Hynavian

The room is neat, you should see mine. :(
I like your idea of transparent and see-through shelves so that your figurines can be on display. However, for the posters, won’t they catch dust over time? I noticed that some of my posters caught dust after some time.

Keep them safe from dust ya. ;)

  9. 9 The P-Meister

REI AYANAMI!!! 10k gold for the winner… ;)

  10. 10 alafista

LOL you got sorta of a shrine for Rei there. + 10000 points for that. \o/

  11. 11 C.I.

    Holy Lord, A Rei-Shrine. AWWSUM.

And that figurine of Revy is awesome, +1 for that.

  12. 12 double

Hynavian >Sure, the posters do collect dust, but isn’t mounting them on the walls what their purpose is? I have a couple of posters kept in their tubes though, such as the Evangelion 1.0 and the Oofuri.

    The P-Meister > WIN!

Alafista, C.I > Mine’s not a Rei Shrine yet, probably just a Rei corner.

  13. 13 korosora

    lol…
    I have a total of 2 figurines & 2 wallscrolls.
