Dragon Quest V

Retaining the name of ドラゴンクエストV 天空の花嫁 (Dragon Quest V Hand of the Heavenly Bride), the platform of this release on 17th July 2008 will be the ever-popular Nintendo DS.

This title has a long history, with the original released for the Nintendo Super Famicom in 1992, followed by a PS2 release with improved graphics in 2004, and finally the DS release. Sadly, I never had the chance to try my hand at it because I have never owned any of the gaming consoles mentioned above.

Still, I’ve had my own fair share of experience with the Dragon Quest series. Back in the days when the Gameboy colour was a raging hit, I played Dragon Quest I and II, as well as Dragon Quest Monsters I and II. In my opinion, the last game mentioned was the best game I have ever played on the Gameboy colour. The gameplay of Dragon Quest is absolutely simple, yet entertaining. I guess I’m probably a gamer who’s easily contented with such typical RPGs.

I doubt I will ever get a DS of my own, considering the number of items on my want list increasing and finances decreasing rapidly. I know that the Wii has gotten a Dragon Quest title of its own last year, but I am unable to get one as I already have a PS3. Since there were a couple of Dragon Quest games released on the PS2, I’m crossing my fingers for at least a title to be released on the PS3.

In the meantime, another Dragon Quest game for the NDS, ドラゴンクエストIX 星空の守り人 (Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky), is in the works. I’m expecting that it’ll probably be released in late 2008 or early 2009. But then again, what’s there to expect when I won’t be able to play the game? Come on Square Enix, give the PS3 owners some Dragon Quest love!

My first game on my NES was Dragon Warrior… my love for RPGs started there…. Played 1-4 on my NES… Sadly 5 and 6 never made it here officially. I did play the fan translated versions though… 7 I played on the playstation , 8 on the PS2…. I’me currently playing DQM:Joker which is seriously fun… played the previous ones on the Gameboys. ALso have Dragon Quest Rocket Slime on the DS and Dragon Quest Swords on the Wii. I really hope they bring the remakes and 9 over to the US officially or I will be disappointed… 4 is my favorite in all the games so the remake would be great…

I generally didn’t like DQM:Joker but i thought DQ was good though. I played Pokemon, DQM:Joker and Digimon World:Dusk… i preferred digi for the monster art and pokemon for the online community. Didn’t like DQM:Joker at all…

I found the fun in trying to breed ever difficult monsters to breed… I just bred the Dragon Lord… Next Stop Dragovian Lord

  4. 4 double

voodoomage > I managed to breed a couple of boss monsters in DQMII, but I can’t play it now since my gameboy isn’t with me.

The P-Meister > I can’t comment about DQM:Joker, but the first 2 DQM games were totally awesome. Much better than the Pokemon games on GBC.
