Building readership for an anime blog isn’t easy, especially with the immense number of anime blogs all over the place. But no fear, here are 4 easy ways that you can quickly increase your anime blog comment and hit count rise like there’s no tomorrow.
1. Be a female anime blogger
The reason why some blogs are getting all the hits and comments while the other ones around the same level aren’t is sometimes due to the gender of the writer. It’s a well-known fact that if you’re female, chances are that you’ll be popular on the internet. Drill the fact that you are a female into the brains of the hot-blooded otaku readers of your site, and you’ll gradually see a spike in the traffic charts, as well as your posts suddenly getting double or triple the usual number of comments. Your blog will soon have some stalkers too. I suppose some male otakus are guilty of this, no?
If you get flamed, you will probably have your own personal online otaku army for a counterattack. After all, which otaku doesn’t want a real life Konata who blogs about anime and the otaku culture?
To establish the fact to those fools who don’t believe that you’re female, you can try occasionally try what Nakagawa Shouko does. Either that, or a massive string of fangirl rantings and ravings.
2. Pretend to be a female anime blogger
If you aren’t female, you can declare yourself as one and start writing in a tone that appears to be such of a female. It works, really. I can’t count with my fingers how many times I’ve heard people saying that they thought Impz was a female blogger until they met him in real life.
Just don’t let the truth be revealed, or things aren’t going to be very pretty. If all fails, try recruiting a female co-writer. A blog that has a female writer always tends to get slightly more popularity that one that totally doesn’t have.
3. Post on eroge
You can post updates on the latest eroge releases, comment on what’s good and what sucks, as well as post reviews on the countless eroges you have played. Of course, this would not be as simple as one might think, since eroges are time consuming, and you’ll need Japanese knowledge. Still, majority of your blog’s visitors won’t really care about what you write as long as your have a couple of screenshots included after every paragraph. Just be prepared to see your site blocked by internet filters.
4. Flame and start dramas
On the internet, people respond to flames just like how moths respond to light. Keep up the flaming and you’ll soon see many people jumping into the fray, flaming you, or flaming the others who have flamed you. Flame Naruto and Narutards, Bleach and Bleachers and anything else that can come to your mind.
Once the flames have began, try your hand at creating some drama to spice up life on the internet. That’s what majority of the internet loves anyway. If you get multiple drastic reactions, celebrate for you have succeeded. Just prepare yourself for hate mail from your countless fans.

Sadly, I’m not a female, nor do I have the skills to pretend to be one online. I like to keep my site safe for work, and I suck at flaming. I’ll probably get caught in the flames rather than being the one doing the flaming.
Still, I’m sure that there are many out there who have the skills or ability to fulfill at least one out of the 4 points stated. Heck, you can be/pretend to be a female anime blogger who fangirl raves about how Yaoi is the greatest thing since sliced bread and blogs about eroge and otome games. You’ll get tons of traffic and awesome reader interaction. How cool is that?

“3. Post on eroge”
Story of my life, although for me the two eroge I completely conquered was an undying labor of love. I do admit I can’t pretend to know the whole deal on eroge even with my massive coverage of bishoujo gaming. And man, I was struggling to play Da Capo II with my busy life.
There was one time though when my site got Japanese-slashdotted when one Japanese blog after another noticed my ToHeart2 summarization project. That was epic.
Well, I’m not really interested in having a huge reader based, just happy enough to share interesting stuff for those who might come across my blog. It’s more of a way to pass time I guess lol.
As for whether I can pull off any of the mentioned ways, I’m sure I can do so for “2. Pretend to be a female anime blogger” very well, that is if I start up a new blog (cause everyone who reads my blog would surely know I’m male).
I used to play characters of the opposite sex on MMORPGs (RO, WoW etc.) and was able to convince nearly everyone (as long as they don’t know me in real life, and my RL friends don’t give the game away) that I was really “female”. I even had a “relationship” with one of them online for nearly 3 months (Eh we even got “married” in game LOL) before I simply stopped playing it. I’m evil ain’t it? Hehehe. I enjoy getting free items ^^.
A sure no go for no.1 since I’m not female; I might be able to do some posts on eroges, but that’s definitely not my forte; and I definitely can’t do flaming posts, cause I’m just uncomfortable with it. Less conflict ftw!
“On the internet, people respond to flames just like how moths respond to light.”
That’s some good analogy I can plagiarize in my own rants.
And I must say you have improved quite a lot in writing editorials.
Mine is still crap.
being female doesn’t always bring readers. but it does bring some trolls who will try and claim that you aren’t female since “there are no girls on the internet.”
Some folks thought I was a girl by the way I typed so formally on MSN and other games/chats. Wonderful.
Nice and easy 4-step way lol. Not universal…but yeah. DQ brings up a good point.
er… don’t be fooled by my name. my name might sounds like a guy but i’m actually a girl. 17 years old, big eyes, epic tits.
lol anyway seriously. to me, i believe other than having great content, a good sense of humor, marketing is also very important. u must know how to market your blog. one good way is to visit other people’s blogs and comment on their posts. the person will no doubt return the favour and post on yours too. this is how we build a community. it’s a win win situation. ^^;
I’m female!
I definitely won’t go for option number 2 for I’m a manly person who likes to work my 8 pac muscles in the gym. Jog half my day away till my treadmill died on me. (: LOL
I pwn #2 subconsciously—people assume I’m female. I don’t even pretend.
Also, want some lessons in trolling?
I think I should publish a book.
bluemist > More people should follow the trend of posting on eroge.
Hirito > I fail at portraying myself as a female online…
l-lawliet > That phrase was inspired by Gintama.
Dancing Queen > Trolls increase the hit count as well as create a little drama sometimes, don’t they? Isn’t that wonderful?
gordon > But I suck at humor!
tj han > And I’m sure you’re hawt.
Hynavian > You’re the GARest.
lolikitsune > Go ahead with the book. Let’s all be trolls.
Good idea.
*starts to crea- I mean, find a female blogger*
im not a female and i will not pretend to be one. so, i will start to flame. naruto suck my balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think double is a naturard even thou he does not own any naruto related items, W000000000000000T. just kidding
All of the above are impossible for me…
Actually I am a girl assuming a masculine blogging identity. Perhaps it is time to reveal my true self? I like yaoi and Sasuke.
Don’t mistake me for my namesake in American Pie – I’m actually a girl.
lol Seriously, has anyone actually tried out these methods? I know that flaming and posting on eroge is bound to work, but are female bloggers (never mind if they make good or lousy posts) really popular?
@gordon,
LOL @ epic tits
really? I write about anime and maids and otaku culture etcetc. but it’s not popular (yet?) (T T) what’s the difference if I’m a guy or girl? I think being a girl is not enough… there must be something more to it~
Well, comment spamming other blogs as well as registering on Anime Nano and AB Antenna help too. Not as much as 1.) and 2.), but you know.
I’m going to continue keeping my gender secret though, so it’ll be a big BANG when I do reveal it. (lols unlikely but whatever xP)+
Icystorm > I wish you luck in your search. Hopefully, you’ll find a hawt one.
otaku dan > I’m the world’s first Narutard who doesn’t watch Naurto!
The Sojourner > You’re not female. You’re gay.
Stifler > Haven’t you seen how many stalkers some females bloggers have?
Kiki > For your site, what I think you need is more circulation. You can sign up at sites such as Anime Nano to increase your traffic and readership.
Nagato > I’ll be looking forward to this big bang of yours.
I like this post. I don’t know if you intend for it to be so, but it’s a good satire/observation of gender trends in the blogosphere. I think being a girl is a double-edged sword on the internet. Because while you do get increased traffic because of your gender, you might also be tainting your own merits as a blogger if people are only reading your shit within a gendered perspective and objectifying you. In any case, very funny and thought-provoking post.
ouuuuuuhhh on #3. I’m guilty of it.
lulz, now you’re reallyy starting to sound like tj XD
itsubun > Thanks for the compliment. It seems that stuff that I come up with out of pure boredom is more well-received as compared to stuff that I really put effort into writing. LOL
misakichii > I must frequent your site more often.
usagijen > tj may be somewhat influential in the anime blogosphere, so I have to admit that maybe a little of his style has gotten to me. But I assure you, it’s still my original style of writing =)
Guess posting about how to make your blog famous is also a way to improve the traffic…haha
Joke’s on you, I can steal all your traffic by pretending to be a little girl who wants candy.
Or you could lie about your age instead and pretend to be a loli.
But IMO 1) and 4) work the best.
Kesenaitsumi > Sure is.
Os > Be my guest =D
C.I. > It’s harder to pretend being a loli as compared to being a female online.
@ Double, I guess, and if the jig is up and you turn out not to be a loli, even fleeing the country won’t help. XD
I should really start telling everyone that I’m a girl. XD
C.I. > It’s a scary thought when the whole internet of lolicons are all out for your blood.
Soshi > You really should.
Lies! This doesn’t apply to my blog!
..well in the first place I admit I don’t update everyday.
I can’t flame, and I also can’t pretend to be a female anime blogger. But that girl get more comments, it’s true. I think it’s unfair.
I’m new here. I like the pictures in your posts very much. Did you drew them yourself? This pictures were the cause I stopped to surf, looked on your site and added it to my favourites. Maybe you should put this tip up, too.
;3 Nice choice of pictures, I happen to be a huge Konata fangirl. Anywho, Your suggestions will most definately help people who are in need of attention for their (most likely awesome) anime blog. Why is it so essential to be/act like a female? I’m a female otaku (and 13 years old, making it even more awkward) and all I get is a bunch of crap about how I shouldn’t be in love with fake people (female charcaters at that) and how I’m supposedly a freak for dressing up as Japanese cartoons. Whoever thinks that THAT is creepy, please either get a life and leave us proud otaku alone or shot yourself, ’cause we’re multiplying like frickin BUNNIES baybeh!
omg nyuuuuuuuuuuuuu how could u post that picture of konata TT_TT its horrible X3 took me a few mins to work it out but yeah im having a slow day the way u wrote made me think u were a girl XD which is funny because most blogs/sites or w/e i look at usually make it seem like a guys writing it =] good job with the tips ^^
Hmn, I might try those tips haha
LOL nice tips hahaha. xD
I can #1 cuz im already female.
cant do #2.. i’ll try #3 and 4
