I never thought that I would keep up with the habit of purchasing Shonen Ace monthly, but I have actually done so for 3 months.
Don’t ask me why there’s an Unsuitable For The Young sticker on the June Issue
In the past, I used to buy magazines and monthly serialisations solely for the sake of the freebies that came together. I couldn’t read a single page of manga without checking the dictionary multiple times back then, so I gave up on trying to read and focused more on whatever goodies the entire package had.
However, it’s different now. Instead of buying for the free stuff such as T-shirts, handphone straps and so on, I’m buying for the serialisations that are within. Shonen Ace has tons of interesting stuff, although I never get the time to read everything. Normally, I just read the few series that I’m following, followed by a quick browse through the rest of the volume. If anything catches my eye, I’ll read on. Else, it’ll just get chucked in a corner until I ever get time to read it again.
Here are some of the freebies that came with the past 3 issues.

Left to Right: Haurhi-chan mobile cleaner, Saber Handphone Strap, Ayanami Rei Pen Case
I’ll only be using the Ayanami Rei pen case, while the rest will just sit in a dark corner to collect dust. I didn’t purchase Shonen Ace specially just for those items, unlike what I did for the Evangelion shirt that came with an issue some time ago. That was really worth the money.
I think I should consider a monthly subscriptuon at Liang Court’s Kinokuniya Branch. Currently, I’m reading Mirai Nikki, Macross F, Puchi Eva and Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge. The last title has unfortunately came to an end in the latest Shonen Ace release. More about NHCE in a separate post, because it deserves it.
As for other series to pick up, I’m looking at Ratman and Tokyo Case. I’m never reading the Ikari Shinji Raising Project, because that’s total crap. Whatever happened to the original Evangelion manga done by Sadamoto Yoshiyuki? I’m missing it really badly!
Anyway, 2 questions for anyone who reads this post. One, do you buy weekly/monthly serialisations or magazines, and if so, are they purchased on a regular basis? Two, do you buy them for the sake for reading, or mainly just for the awesome tempting freebies?

Nope I don’t buy any weekly or monthly magazines but I will be willing to get them if they offer cool Claymore freebies. ^.^ Claymore die-hard here!
Don’t buy any here, I just pick up significant issues of any publication, like Famitsu or Megami, or Weekly Shonen Jump, far too costly to keep up. I may have even lost some when I moved house. >.>
As to the unsuitable for the young sticker, maybe Macross is adult-only? XD
I used to have a couple monthly magazines but they weren’t anime related. I imagine that I’ll probably start up subscriptions some time soon, like next year, but probably 1 for cooking and 1 for home decorating. So no freebies.
I also get Shounen Ace, but for scanlation. Seems a bit of a waste to get some 800 page giant magazine just for one series, but I most of the serializations just don’t interest me. As for the extras, IMHO they’re pretty crappy, and I would never think of using them.
Nope, I don’t buy magazines as a rule. I would rather be spending my money on books - I always feel its more value for money.
Hynavian > You should check out the magazine(Monthly Shonen Jump) which Claymore is serialised in.
C.I. > Macross F adult only? You must be kidding me.
Caitlin > I suck at cooking and anything arty, so those magazines don’t suit me a single bit, lol.
selkirk > I thought that some of Shonen Ace’s freebies were rather good. At least they’re usable.
Stifler > It’s all reading material.
@double: I know! That’s why I rofl’ed when I saw the “Unsuitable for the young” sticker. XD
Still, I have never read shonen ace, but the Haruhi HP cleaner and the Rei pen case are definitely appealing. Now Rei can carry my stuffs! ^^
