Not the whole series, but just episode 7. The 20 odd minutes revolve around some loser violinist who hires Golgo13 not to kill his rival, but instead, to snipe the G string of his violin so as to embarrass him during his solo. And to think he’s paying big bucks for such a act. What a buffoon.
Anyway, the G string was sniped because the tune played was Air on the G String. I’m totally not knowledgeable regarding anything related to classical music, and have totally zero musical background. Still, I think understand the bare basics of appreciate a good piece of music.
Air on the G String by Johann Sebastian Bach was used as BGM in a portion of the Battle Royale movie, which was also filled with many some other classical background soundtracks from the beginning to the very end, Hence, the movie immediately came to my mind when I heard the tune in the Golgo 13 episode. It totally brought back the memories when I hunted all around searching for the Battle Royale manga, novel and DVD, only to find out that all forms of Battle Royale media except the novel was banned in Singapore. To think that it’s rated R-15 in Japan, and the director actually stated that the target audiences were the youths.
Air on the G String
I really love how the music actually fits the movie perfectly. No one would have expected such soothing music to fit a movie revolving around such violence. Those interested in classical music should check out the movie’s soundtrack. Totally awesome melodies that calm my emotions.
However, I condemn those who say that they enjoyed the movie merely because of the violence present. There are many other deeper issues that can be explored within the movie, and the violence is just a medium which the issues are expressed through.
I shall stop here, rewatch the Battle Royale movie for the umpteenth time, and loop the movie’s soundtrack a couple times.
G string. Heh.
Anyway, I found this episode to be far more ridiculous than the previous one involving the balloon and toy gun. Well played, Duke Tougo.
