Farewell Kureha

In a few more hours, it’s goodbye forever.

Months before Kureha was released, I had already preordered her. The reason for my preorder? Impluse, I guess. Back then, I was quite a heavy spender, so cutting down on my spendings never came to mind. Kureha was a really popular figurine, with many comrades raving about how awesome she is, and how much they want to get her. As a result, I was somehow influenced, and eventually bought her.

It was only after I took her out of her box when I realised that I wasn’t buying her because I liked her as a character. I only watched less than 5 episodes of Shining Tears X Wind, and was almost clueless about her as a character. She might have been a gorgeous figurine, but this totally goes against my principle of buying only figurines of characters I like.

A final photo to commemorate that I once owned her

However, now that I’ve found a buyer thanks to Panther, I can let go of something which I should have never bought in the first place. I don’t have the habit of selling figurines, with this being my first. Selling her just might be for the better though, since someone who really wants her gets her, and I get some cash to fund for other important stuff.

Besides Kureha, I have 2 other figurines bought on impulse, namely Tears Grant and Natalia Luzu Kimlasca Lanvaldear, both from Tales of the Abyss. I never played the game since I never owned a PS2, but I still bought them at a sale anyway. Sometimes, even I myself am shocked at how I buy stuff. ORZ

I’d hit it, you know, if she was real.

  2. 2 Panther

    So would I Icy.

Also no problem, at least you know what you want to do now and can get back some monies in preparation for other important things.

Getting mine only just yesterday though was a real good feeling, since she is one of the first figures I went to DC.com to look for and have been searching for her for 6 months. Kureha is a wonderful girl in the game.

I think it’s important to stick to the ground rules set for any collection and your selling of Kureha is a step in the right direction. :) I suppose as with collectors, we often get lost in a frenzy of jump-starting our collection but when equilibrium hits, the wise thing would be to start trimming the fat. That is not to say Kureha wasn’t a good figure. She’s gorgeous but I sold mine too since being 1/7 she ruptured the homogeneity my collection enjoyed.

IcyStorm, Panther > You guys should hook up.

Stripey > Yea, sometimes buying gets out of control. When you look back, you might think, “Hey why did I even buy that?!”

I salute you dear sir. It must have been very hard to let her go. I too buy figures I fall in love in. Not doing so and impulsively buying would somehow render me to feel less worth for my figures, or throw out my collection’s identity. That plus it would be pretty boring to collect every figure there is. *salutes*

    she’s beautiful, seriously.

his totally goes against my principle of buying only figurines of characters I like.

I have the same rule/SOP - the figurine must look good aesthetically but I also want it to convey the personality of the character too and I can’t assess that if I don’t feel that I know the chara well.

green > It wasn’t really that hard, as I didn’t exactly like her as a character since I knew little about her.

The P-Meister > Yea, but not my type.

Zyl > If I were to buy figurines just for the character, not considering the aesthetic factor, my room will be piled up with a crapload of Rei figurines. And at least 80% will be of sub par quality, lol.

when you enter army, you will learn how to save better :P

Err… I think you misread me. I meant that aesthetic beauty is a necessary factor only. The elusive ability of a figure to convey the charm of the chara’s ‘personality’ is the sufficient factor for going ahead with a purchase.

  11. 11 double

Zyl > I probably did misread you. In other words, what your trying to convey is if the figurine truly resembles what the character is supposed to be, GET IT. Did I get that right?

I really want her just because she’s so pretty… ^^’ in fact, all the figurines I really want (about 4) are of characters I have no relationship to.
I made a coupple of impulse buys just a while ago myself, which I plan on selling. That was of Claire from Claymore and Mizuho from Onegai Teacher, both I know very well and like but still, the figurines didn’t give me that much…
