It was one hell of a day navigating through the human traffic jams, trying to snap decent shots on an event for the first time using my DSLR.

Collateral Damage Studios’ Art
The queue for the redemption booth was a snake. A freaking python which extended all the way out of the convention hall and near the escalators. I reckon there was at least more than 200 people in the queue, all seated and engaged in some form of self-entertainment while passing time. Well, it’s free stuff, so any typical Singaporean would queue in line. Me? I couldn’t even be bothered getting the passport thing that’s used to redeem freebies.

If IFS put this up for sale, I would have bought it
Anyway, I decided to snap a shot of the queue near the booth, when this random dude came up to me and asked the question in the post’s title. I was stunned for a moment. Who in the world ever asks such a question in a toy convention anyway?
I replied “No” and just told him that I was taking a photo of the queue due to it’s sheer length, and walked off since I’ve completed what I had in mind.

I thought what I’d do was, I’d pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes
Thinking back, I wonder why he used the word Paparazzi? He probably thought it’s a big intimidating word which would be useful. Well, he did succeed in stunning me for a second or two. I wonder why he bothered me with such a question. He wasn’t even my camera’s target anyway.
Here’s the definition of the word Paparazzi from dictionary.com
a freelance photographer, esp. one who takes candid pictures of celebrities for publication
To start off, I suppose there aren’t any in Singapore, since I’ve never seen any candid photos of celebrities plastered all over local newspapers. Also, if you apply in it my situation, I can’t possible be one. I may be taking photos, but I’m not selling them or getting paid. I don’t think I spotted any famous public faces in the line for toy freebies either. Finally, I’m no stalker.
To the guy who decided to be a smart Alec, understand the meaning of a word before you use it. Also, if you were looking for attention, here you have it. Half a blog post dedicated to you.

Cosplay meets Guitar Hero on the Wii

I’ve been talking about how I should get a DS since ages ago…
That matter aside, here’s something that kind of made my day.
While I was wandering around the hall, someone came up to me and asked “Are you double?”. It turned out that she actually reads this site, and if I recall well, she said that she commented before in a Byousoku post of mine. I’m not sure which is her comment, but it was pretty cool when approached by a reader whom I’ve never met before. Her brother took a photo of us, which felt a little weird, since I don’t really have people asking me to take photos with them.

Yeah right… And Japanese people are Samurais and Ninjas
The STCC wasn’t exactly as big as I envisioned it to be, although the crowd proved to be rather overwhelming. Since I’ve covered all the booths already, I’ll be going down on Day 2 for the anime cosplay. Cosfest’s next week, so I had better figure out how to take decent indoor photos under poor lighting conditions with manual mode by then. I tried taking shots with a slow shutter speed, but my shaky hands caused most of them to turn out really blurred. I need a pair of firm hands >_<
Any tips on how I can go about doing it?

You use the Force.
Also, you are now famous! You are THE celebrity instead of a “paparazzi” lolol.
lets us both figure it out before cosfest
, play around with the settings. Which i did just now, many photos turned out to be quite bad only a handful is passable. This what happens when you dont have photographer friends
Are you paparazzi??
Yup you recall well, I’ve only commented once in your blog and it was indeed in one of your Byousoku posts, under this same pseudonym. =]
Thanks for being so kind to have a picture taken together! & sorry to weird you out with my strange request. =P I’ve always liked your style of writing and the thoughts you shared in your blog, but because my english is not so good, I’m mostly just lurking around. And, back at you, meeting one of my favourite bloggers in person is definitely a highlight in my STCC trip! =]
Regarding taking indoor photos under poor lighting conditions, my brother suggests setting the ISO to 1600 and more, or switching to sports mode. Hope it works!
@Double: The Paparazzi fella gave me quite a shock, I thought it was security or something at first, at least, before I found he was just being a smartarse.
And yes, youse a celebrity.
And @Prism: I don’t see what’s so bad about your english, you can write just fine. ^^
Wow my idea worked, so fast too lol. Sports mode eh? I got to see if I have that in my fail camera.

You are AN celebrity!
Hahahah that’s awesome! Plus you’ve got a fan!
u are famous. one day u will get people asking u for your autograph.
btw, wouldn’t a fast shutter speed helps freeze action to prevent blur shots?
LOL at all the celebrity comments. I’m no celebrity. And I’m no paparazzi either, tj han.
prism > Thanks for the tip, will try it out later
gordon > But I needed slow shutter speed as the lighting’s pretty poor.
@C.I.: I do make alot of grammar and tenses mistakes, but thank you. =]
@gordon: Haha I did! =P His signature is on the 2nd last page of my copy of STCC events guide.
@double: You’re welcome. =]
@double: Why don’t you ask Windbell? I’m sure he would be able to give you lots of tips on taking good photos. And you are a paparazzi celebrity!
@prism: Well, not as much as some people I’ve seen. But then again, English is not their first language, so they have an excuse there…
And man, I too need to figure out how to take good photos before Cosfest. The shots I took last year sucked.
You are a celebrity paparazzi! xD
Other than the stuff CDS had, nothing at the event really interested me, but I guess it’s due to false expectations ):
Too bad about not having you join my man harem had we met up.
just try out for their photo competition man, you never know!
Eh? There’s a photo competition? It’s nothing I’ve heard of.
