With a broken bat deciding the match. When I first saw how Goro’s pitch broke the bat, the first thing that came to my mind was the bat’s material. Why wood, not aluminum? This prompted me to do some reading up, and it turned out that aluminum bats aren’t allowed in professional leagues. New knowledge gained because of anime. Hurray!
Season 4 of Major was a little slow paced as compared to the past 3 seasons, in my opinion. Also, I found that it wasn’t as emotional as seasons 1 and 3, especially the latter. That’s probably because it’s no longer baseball in an education institute, but professional baseball instead. Most players do it for the money anyway, not for their burning passion for Baseball. Although there’s some passion shown in some of the matches, it’s really minor as compared to the epic match between Seishuu and Kaidou.
Character development of the core cast was pretty much one thing I looked forward to in Major, but it seems that majority of this season only focuses on Goro and Gibson Jr., with only the first few episodes touching on the characters back in Japan. I didn’t really care much about the other characters, since they’re only for this season.

Season 5’s out in January 2009, which is about half a year away. It’s going to be covering the Baseball World Cup arc, and there’s the all-star Japan team with Toshiya, Mayumura on the same side as Goro, and that sounds like something worth looking forward to. After all, fighting with your country’s pride on the line would definitely spark up a whole lot of tension and manly passion, I assume.
In other old but related news, Major’s movie is scheduled to be out in cinemas in January 2009 too. I’m not sure what the plot will be like, but my guess is an original story. It’s impossible to squeeze an entire arc into a single movie without compromising anything, so that’s not going to be happening.
In the meantime, I shall be entertained with whatever few series I have left. Now, I wonder when Oofuri’s going to get a season 2.

Wut Manner of n00b bat can’t withstand a ball going at 100 mph!
Actually, from what I’ve read, bats have a chance of breaking once the ball speed hits 90 mph. It depends on how they’re used to hit the ball, the angle of impact and some other stuff which I can’t remember.
There’s actually people who want wooden bats out of pro baseball as there are cases where broken bats flying at insane speeds injure spectators
The MLB will never remove wooden bats until a less destructible material is found that doesn’t belt the balls 600 feet when swung. Metal Bats are banned from MLB because their distance to impact ratio is almost 150% that of wooden bats, so a 596foot homer over the “Big Green Giant” would be able to be done by just about every batter that hit the ball. Plus the speed of the ball is also amplified. Aluminum bats contract and deflect, wood impacts and deflects. That’s why if you see pro players nail a ball with a Aluminum bat, the ball almost flattens. It’s really sick.
