The latest issue of Shonen Ace spots the Evangelion female pilot duo in their swimwear on the cover, and it comes together with a Japanese folding fan as a freebie.

In the same August issue release last year, there was also an Evangelion folding fan included as well.

It makes me wonder if Kadokawa Shoten makes it a point to include one folding fan with each year’s August issue. I wouldn’t know though, as I’ve only start purchasing since 2007. If next year’s August issue does contain yet another fan, my question will be answered.
For Haruiists, there is also a folding fan for you guys.

The fan in the image above came together with the the July issue of Ace Assualt, a seasonal Kadokawa Shoten publication. This one’s the summer release for this year. However, it was released almost a month ago, and even Amazon Japan’s out of stock. Good luck to those determined to get their hands on it.
Personally, I think fans are the most useless freebies such monthly publications can ever give. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone used folding fans before, what more fans with anime prints, and I don’t think I ever will. Not with portable electric fans, or the free fans that they give out at the various matsuris. I would prefer something else that I can actually use instead. Even a handphone strap or stickers would be good.
However, now that I buy the magazine with the main purpose of reading and not for the free stuff, I’m don’t really have to complain about what’s given.
Sidetracking a little from the fans, one thing I’ve never understood was why Japanese publications have their magazine issues labelled with an additional month in advance. For example, the latest August issue of Shonen Ace was released in late June. Shouldn’t the issue be the July issue instead? Anyone knows why?

I will kill for that Haruhi fan. I swear to god I will. WHERE IS MAI BEATSTICK.
Could tack them on walls for decorations. ^_^
Phew its hot here in Tokyo. Thanks for the reminder about bringing a fan out ! :]
C.I. > Check Kinokuniya. They still might have it.
Caitlin > Good idea ^^
blauereiter > Yea, I heard Tokyo’s summer is hotter than Singapore. Stay cool =D

To meet deadlines. Most magazines publish their magazines by the last week of the month. Selling the magazine during the actual month is not possible because publishers use one month in advanced to prepare the material and the articles. Not only happens with japanese magazines, but in general.
Thats a cool haruhi fan.

LOL… You are good…..
A folding hand fan is a must-have item (for me) in Japanese terrific hot summer.
But I hesitate to use these Anime printed hand fans(^^;;.
P.S.
I agree with Toonleap’s comment regarding issue month matter.
