Here are the reason why I say so:

1. You meet all kind of people. Nice people, retards, assholes and whatnot.
2. Assignments and tests are mini bosses, and the final semester examination is the giant badass king of the dungeon.
3. Some, if not most assignments are similar to raiding. Teaming up is mandatory.
4. If you’re lucky, you get healers who will healer and tankers who will tank, meaning people who will play their role. If your luck sucks, you get Leeroy Jenkins and your whole party wipes, in the most epic manner ever.
5. Failing or doing badly for tests, exams and assignments is like dying in a MMO. You lose gold, experience points and item durability, meaning that you fall behind the rest who did better than you. Sucks to don rares while your clasmates are equipped with shiny epics.
6. Changes are irreversible. In an MMORPG, if you pump your warrior with intelligence, your character’s screwed for its lifespan. In school, if you screw up a semester, your overall GPA is screwed.
7. The lecturers are like GMs. Piss them off and you’ll learn of the consequences.
8. You can pay gold farmers real life cash to help you level your character, aka do your assignments. But even your level maxed-out warrior fully decked with uniques will die because you never learned how to tank decently.
9. PVP sucks when you suck at it. There’s no way an average student (me) can beat, or even be on par with the top few students in class.
10. There is no cow level.

All this is based on life in a Polytechnic, so there might be some differences with yours. Point 4 and 5 can pretty much apply for life in general.
Assignments suck when they come in hordes. It’s like getting gang-banged by multiple elite mobs in one go.
I need a super-hax to get me to level 70, fast >_>

Well, after reading this, I suddenly remember having to fight a mini boss (Lab Test) this coming Thursday..
Can I add one more reason?
Trains and Bus rides are like those taxis that transport you between different areas. If you do not have enough fee to pay for it, you just have to walk to your destination which might take a longer time. ^^
Too bad you don’t have private servers IRL. =(
Haha, I’m in the same situation as you since were from the same polytechnic. xD
ttly agree on pt 4. there’s a leeroy jenkins in my group who have did nothing since sem 1, except screwing up presentations all the time DX
Why not add another point,
11. Disconnection with server = Death
#4 is so true. I’m all for group assignments as long as I can trust the group.
I’ve gotten screwed over several times in lab experiments because of 1 slacking member.
Point 4: “LLLEEEEEERRROOOYYYY JENKINS!” Once Leeroy Jenkins comes into play, fail all other party members’ assessments. Leeroy Jenkins does not have frenzy this turn, but he does have the fury of his party members directed at him.
Lol @ Leeroy.
This post is probably directed towards students that have group projects though. One wishes I had that kind of luxury…no wait. I might just meet Leeroy.
It seems like many people have the problem with #4. In my school, we have to take up a new elective each semester. This ends up in meeting and doing projects with total strangers. From my experience last semester, I played the role of tanking, dps-ing and healing. The group presentation meant for 5 people became a 1 man show. How awesome…
when you enter army, is like fighting against hacked characters ^^;, things just don’t go your way.
@double: I know how that feels, I got that all the time in my secondary school. In poly, to a lesser extent but some of it is there.
I most agree with #1 ^^
Actually the Army is the upgraded version of the MMORPG that you speak of. Do look forward to it.
there’s only 1 thing u can do, learn the metagame. exploit imbalances before the next nerf(changing of syllabus). sucking up to GMs is also a good idea.
u play too much MMORPG, esp diablo 2..
LOL. Every single point, JACKPOT! A very nice comparison xD
pp > As if I’m not facing enough haxors already. Haxors who know how to play their character well >_>
kozta-boom > Lol that was like… the weakest point made in this whole article.
The Sojourner > I’m not exactly looking forward to it.
The P-Meister > Nah, I never suck up to GMs. Its always neutral or hostile, although rarely the latter. That’s only for special cases.
Tiny Red Man > Says who?
Mizunaga > Do I win gold?
Another possible point would be different characters can specialize in different aspects by pumping stats points in the different aspects. Pumping a stat point to each aspect will produce characters of different class.
Dexterity = Sportsman
Mana = Artists
Intelligence = Nerds
etc
Graduation
The short period of time when you realized that you invested so many hours, so many days, so many years… just for a minor reward (slip of paper or hitting level 200)… and it won’t be long til you go through another round whether it be college or grad school.
Hey, very nice comparison there! Personally, I myself compare school to Mana Khemia (PS2 game), the only difference is the A’s (or in my case 1.25’s to 1.50’s) don’t grant me extra free time.
All, I can say is that my guild or party in school is pretty balanced, I think I play the role of a support chara who casts buffs. (In other words I’am the group’s conscience)
