The latest Lupin III special, Sweet Lost Night, happens to have the story set in a tropical island the size of a tiny dot on the equator of the world’s map. Now, this miniature sunny islet has been featured a couple of times in fictional media. Cowboy Bebop has a Singaporean bounty hunter, and the last installment of Pirates of the Caribbean portrays Singapore as a pirate island.

Welcome to Singapore
This time in Lupin III, the portrayal is rather amusing, considering that some portions were actually decently featured.

Look at all the greenery. It’s no wonder Singapore’s named Garden City

I don’t remember such a hill in the city

This is supposed to be Sentosa

The ever-famous Merlion

The train to our northern neighbour?

Clarke Quay

Merlion souvenir

This is probably the last we’ll ever see of Singapore in Lupin III…. Or not…
And here’s a little bonus magic trick.

Now you see it.

Now you don’t.
Man, this is just plain hilarious.

Oh they even feature the Merlion! I never knew that the Merlion would be this famous one day; anime producers featuring it. XD
THAT IS SENTOSA? ROFLMAO.
perharps people that don’t know singapore might think the merlion is just a made up thing by the producers. But then again, the merlion IS a made up animal, LOL.
the merlion has powa! something is coming out from it’s mouth!! Fireball!! The hill could be Bukit Timah Hill….but a lot taller..
すごい!
WTF
Hynavian, pp > It was actually featured many years back in Cowboy Bebop.
C.I > Yes, I wonder where all the construction is.
Tiny > I don’t remember Bukit Timah Hill being in the city.
One > どっちがすごい?シンガポールのレファレンスか”魔法のトリック”なの?
Panther > No really, it’s interesting.
LOL, at least you can thank the Merlion to some extent for Singapore being featured in anime. Malaysia will just continue being ignored by the likes of Code Geass.
Cool ! Singapore featured in such a famous anime !
Issa-sa > Australia was neglected too. No one wants it.
blauereiter > Yea, let’s look out for more features of Singapore in anime.
Malaysia and Australia. Forgotten lands in Anime.
Hey, I’m from New York City, and the Lupin specials that have featured New York always make me crack up because of the things they get right vs. the things they either got wrong by accident or decided to take liberties with on purpose for the sake of the plot. So it’s fun to read similar notes about how they hit or missed with sites in Singapore.
