I arrived at Fukuoka International Airport this morning, and I’m currently at my friend’s house in Oomuta. The train ride from Hakata station took much longer than I expected. The train’s timetable stated for it to arrive at sometime around 10.50am, but it took almost half an hour longer than it’s scheduled time. This is the first time I’ve seen a train schedule in Japan delayed by such a difference.
His home is a real distance from the city, with even the nearest convenience store being a 15 minutes bicycle ride away. Hence, the only way to get around is by car. Thankfully, he can drive.

600yen for a delicious bowl of ramen
After I met up with my friend, we headed over to Kumamoto for some Ramen. I must say, it’s one of the best ramen I’ve tasted so far. Now, all that’s left is for me to get a taste of the ever-popular Hakata Ramen.
After which, we went around the area to a couple of places such as the supermarket, the clothes store and the game center. All of them weren’t too far off from his home, since he needed to report for his part-time job at a nearby game center in the evening. Speaking of game centers, all the games in the one I went to cost only a mere 100 yen. Hence, even if I sucked so badly at arcade games, I still played anyway.

Nothing but fields of green
Nothing otakuish here that I’ve spotted so far, except the mini manga collection my friend owns. After all, we’re talking about the countryside. It’s quite an experience though, since most people who visit to Japan as tourists lodge in the luxury city hotels.
My friend’s working tomorrow too, so the real fun will only begin next week. I’m not complaining though, since I’ve already began to enjoy this trip.
On a side note, Japan’s internet speed is really insane. A poor signal wireless connection in the countryside loads so much faster than my wired connection at home.

Lol @ wireless connection. Indeed.
Also, countryside! Must be peaceful and nice there. Though inconvenienced if you are without a sort of private transport, even a bicycle that is. Ramen, I want to eat.
orz… enjoy urself there
I’ve never had real ramen before! That looks good
あーおいしいそう~食べたいな、熊本のラーメン!ヽ(´ー` )ノ
Glad to see that you’re enjoying yourself!!
Enjoy yourself! It’ll be refreshing to be so close to “nature” once in a while (too many noise and buildings in Sg). (:
Panther > I’m really growing to love life in the countryside. It’s really relaxed.
bj0rn > I will ^^
Nagato > You should try some if you ever get the chance, it’s really good stuff.
Soshi > 博多ラ-メンもおいしいと思うよ!
Hynavian > Yea, life in Singapore’s just totally different from the tranquility here.
Hakata Ramen! But Ichiran Ramen is still the best, IMO. Double spicy FTW! XD
Fukuoka is a great place to relax… and there’s Mandarake for your otaku needs
Oh also double… if you ever get the chance, do check out Hamakatsu. They serve one of the best tonkatsus around, all thanks to their special sauce (where you have to perform this ’sesame seed grinding’ ritual to mix with the sauce). Not to mention you get unlimited rice, salad, and pickled vegetable side dish with the meal set XD
Now I miss Fukuoka… :’(
Thanks for the recommendations. I’ll try to check them out if I can.
Hopes you enjoy the peaceful life there. ^.^
