Cosplay In Japan

I’ve already revealed the Ikari Shinji Cosplay, but since we were at a cosplay event in Harumi, there were other cosplays too. I must say, the level of cosplay at the event we attended was much higher than that of the events back home.

However, everyone was busy in their own cosy little corner, having their private photo shoots. Hence, the atmosphere did feel much of a public cosplay event, but rather a cosplay event which consists of various private photo shoots put together. Hence, getting pictures of cosplayers whom you do not know was quite a task. What more, everyone only understood Japanese. Although I could speak some, it was still a somewhat daunting challenge.

She looks just like the real thing!

Tsundere v.s Gachihomo

Some of the cosplayers were pretty friendly though, such as the Rei and Asuka we met. They were quite taken aback when Bangin and I spoke in English, and surprised to discover that I came from Singapore. As usual, I got the common comment of how I looked Japanese.

殺害せよ

俺は地獄のテロリスト

Krauser-sama was one of the friendliest I’ve ever met too. A pity that teeth guitar wasn’t performed.

This one’s for the Gundam SEED fanboys.

Time leapers

I couldn’t recognise that this group was from Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo until Bangin pointed it out.

There were countless Code Geass cosplayers. I’ve lost count of how many Lelouchs and C.Cs there were.

Nyan Nyan~

Bobby’s hair is totally awesome!

Macross Frontier cosplayers were aplenty too. You don’t have to look around to spot some. I think it was impossible to count the number of the Rankas at the event with merely your fingers.

The obligatory Haruhi cosplay at every cosplay event

Soul Eater was one of the popular series at the event too.

There were still many cosplayers, but as stated earlier, getting pictures wasn’t as easy as local events, so that’s all I have. If you’re expecting to impress people with your DSLR in such events in Japan, think again. More than 90% of the crowd possess DSLRs. Rather, you’ll be a laughing stock if you shoot with your point-and-shoot digital camera.

One thing I liked about the event was the venue. Being able to use the sea as backdrop for some photos gave them a nice feel. Sadly, we’ll never have any local events held in such awesome locations.

This is the first, and possibly the last cosplay event I’ll be able to attend in Japan. Hopefully, I’ll be able to go back again for yet another event when my photography skills have levelled up, and I can speak Japanese much more fluently.

Wow, I’m looking forward to such event.
Even in usa, everyone crowding the hall.

    Good cosplayers in the event.

Too much sunlight can also be a bad thing. (Overexposure) I’m still learning the intricacies of portraiture and post-processing though.

On the other hand, Go To Krauser-sama!!!

Shin > Your taste is simply so predictable.

Panther > The Tokikake cosplay really surprised me.

    satomi > アニメかゲームのキャラじゃなかったら、それコスプレじゃないよ。
    僕も学ランを着てみたいな!

e-jump > I hate crowded hall events. Those are the worse to navigate around.

phossil > The event was overall pretty awesome. Would have been more awesome if it was easier to take photos.

MyMayat > I totally agree on that. Most of my pictures turned out overexposed >_>

Once I saw the Rei, I approve! But then I saw Asuka… but it’s been redeemed through waitress Ranka <3

I think the ’standard’ is possibly just due to the make-up. And posing. Nothing much can be improved upon for Singaporeans (except for those who are really bad).

Krauser-san cosplayer looks awesome, though. I applaud for the amount of time he takes to apply the white makeup on his face and hands.
