I was browsing through ZB’s Japanese music site when I chanced upon Polysics. Their orange jumpsuits paired together with bar sunglasses totally caught my interest. Who wouldn’t have their curiosity and interest stirred up by such visual flair?
I want a pair of bar sunglasses now.

And so, I began listening to a couple of their songs, with the first being Rocket.
Rocket
On my first listen, I was immediately hooked. At the same time, I felt that the song was really familiar. It was one of those times when I knew I had heard the song somewhere, but have simply no idea where. It was only after a couple of listens when I realised where it was from.
It was the ED for Moyashimon! Well, Moyashimon ended quite sometime ago, and having a poor memory didn’t help either, so you can’t really blame me for not recalling.
Rocket is currently looping. I’m unable to explain why, but the musical elements embedded with the song are simply addictive. This is a totally refreshing change from my regular music fare (BUMP OF CHICKEN, RADWIMPS etc.). The biggest change is the lyrical aspect. While the bands I mentioned write lyrics that are pretty deep in a sense, Polysics’ lyrics make no sense, be it in English, Japanese or their own moon language.

But that’s why it’s great fun to listen to. Personally, I think their style of music will be a great stress reliever, which might be an aid in the weeks to come. These guys and girls are freaking awesome!
Here are other some other songs which I find are worthy of mention too.
Pretty Good is pretty good
I My Me Mine
Let’s all go ballistic doing jumping jacks while singing!

I frequently subscribed to Japanator Radio podcast, which featured the Polysics quite a lot of times. (Zac Bentz, the host of the show, have even said that he’s the biggest Polysics fan.)
As somebody who has sampled some of the songs on the podcast, I recommend Polysics highly because their songs are very unique and, dare I say, very upbeat. Definitely a must-have on your collection.
Started liking this band from listening to them in Moyashimon as well. Good stuff, and like TP said, they’re very unique.
I came across the video for “I My Me Mine” a couple of years ago, and Polysics instantly became one of my favorites. They’re the band Devo would have been if Mark Mothersbaugh were a cheerful, hyperactive extrovert.
I got sick of their music eventually, after looping 5 times per day for a week. @_@
I guess their style ain’t for my ears.
TP > I think I might just start subscribing to the podcast too.
Don > I do wonder where does the lead singer get his source of hyperactive energy from.
senti > Our musical tastes seem to differ a lot.
Their sunglasses look like censorship bars if you look at them head-on.
One of my favourite “unique” bands. It’s a wonder they are still hyperactive after all these (10?)years.
BTW, try to find the “Domo Arigato Mr Roboto” music video. Truly hilarious.
I’ve watched that PV before posting this up, but it didn’t really seem interesting. Except for the part where the robot trashes the kiddos.
