After setting up Ubuntu on my desktop, I decided to tinker around with it. The torrent for Bloody Monday was released while I was at it, so I utilised the default torrent client that came together with the installation.

If you can’t see it clearly, it’s Down 8.46MB/s and UP 3.07MB/s
The screenshot’s crappy because I actually overwrote the original file in all that excitement.
The speeds further increased after this screenshot, before dropping after slightly less than a minute. Still, it’s pretty insane, especially since I’ve been getting crappy speeds for ages. It looks like Ubuntu will be the OS which I shall spend majority of my time from now on.
Now all I need to figure out is how to input of the character keys such as =, ‘ and @ in Ubuntu. Copying and pasting these characters is a real pain in the ass.

Huh you mean it can’t enter = and @? Why? I don’t get it. Also, what conection are you on and are you sure its the client and not the torrent file itself? Have you downloaded anything like, anime?
I get other characters when I type = and @. I am on Starhub‘s cheapest broadband plan. It might be the torrent, but I have never gotten anything above 500kb/s back on Windows. Even for other torrents, while their speed can‘t even be compared to the one in the image, it‘s still much better than my single digit speeds that I‘ve been getting on fresh torrents for the past few days on Windows Vista.
Ubunutu. Nice typo.
I do believe Windows has some shit that prevents torrents from going too fast, and that you need to bypass that. Congrats on the great speeds.
HOLY-SHIT
I had to hack windows to get like…1/8th of that.
ON shitty wireless. But yeah, Ubuntu is free of a lot of windows limitations, that’s prolly why.
It might be the bittorrent program, too. When I was back in Windows the torrent program seemed okay, but when I switched to Azureus for Windows I could not believe the speed. And I can’t believe the speed you’re getting now, even though I’m now using Mint (a variant of Ubuntu). I never got speeds that fast!
wow, You have a fast connection. Problably (as mentioned before) its the client.
downloading Bloody monday ep4 eh?
Panther > The hands are faster than the eyes.
CI > I doubt I can even get more than 200kb/s even by hacking windows.
Peter S > It just might be the client, but overall, my speed has improved by quite a bit.
phossil > I’m quite hooked on to that drama.
Because our connection here is throttled, people have been using this to circumvent it, with relative success. But since I just can’t do without Windows, it’s unlikely I’d make the switch.
Even the booting time has improved a lot, now is on par with vista.
