Before I begin on this workshop, I now realise that I need start getting my own name card. Now that that’s been said, let’s move on to the event.

Before Danny stole the spotlight and everyone’s attention, the afternoon began with an introduction to Animax’s LaMB.
LaMB’s a sci-fi, futuristic cyber-punkish anime, which reminds me a little of Ghost in the Shell. It’s probably the suit which resembles the Major’s. Anyway, I’m looking forward to the LaMB’s release. While the plot’s without a doubt cliche, the art’s really impressive, as expected of Artgem. For a local production, it has far exceeded my expectations. The only thing which I’m disappointed about would be the choice of songs. I was hoping for something alone the lines of Ghost in the Shell’s OPs and EDs. Oh well, let’s just hope it delivers.
After 30-odd minutes, the real content that everyone came for began. Danny first started off with his history, both personal and blogging. Followed by which, he proceeded on to the various topics such as SEO, web traffic optimisation and site monetization. His presentation content was enlightening, although I feel it’s no simple feat to successfully implement at least 50% of the stuff mentioned. Still, I’m sure everyone learned a thing or two from him. Now, if only I could get Google Webmaster Tools working for me…
There were quite a number of hilarious moments throughout the workshop. The ones that made an impression were the flashing of Tripeman, Danny’s accent change and the 2D girl breaks. Tj_han and I didn’t recognise any of the girls, so I’m guessing they’re from eroges?
After Danny’s concluded his presentation, it was time to mingle around. Danny gave out his name cards and took pictures with the fellow otakus present, in commemoration of the event. I didn’t receive one though, since I still have his name card from months ago. It’s great to see that Danny still remembers me from our meet up back in April this year. I was actually trying to contact him for a meet up before I headed over in October, but there wasn’t any reply, so my deduction was that the email got caught by the spam filter. It turned out that Danny was really busy and only saw the email after my trip. It couldn’t be helped though, since his business really is booming.

As there were quite a number of familiar faces present such as Impz, 0ne, Darkmirage, Gordon and Soshi, I felt comfortable with the interaction. The only thing that got me was the temperature as there was a downpour. I start shivering really easily when I feel the slightest chill.
Throughout the networking/random chit-chat session, almost everyone was doing something which I wasn’t. This brings us back to the very first sentence of the post. Name card exchange. Majority were whipping out their name card cases to reveal fancy papers, and all I could do was be on the receiving end. It felt really weird.
Tragic Comedy introduced me to a lady who was working in Animax, and we began a discussion regarding LaMB. It was then mentioned that I run an anime blog and the lady asked if she could have my name card. I stared blankly for a second or two, before replying that I possessed none. Can you imagine how embarrassing that was? In the end, I wrote my site’s address on a stick-it note.
Hopefully, I didn’t appear as some cheapskate who isn’t willing to spend money on printing name cards. It just didn’t cross my mind that I might need it. That is, until today. To avoid any future embarrassment, I’ve made up my mind on getting my own name card.
Time flew by swiftly, and it wasn’t long before it was time to put a final conclusion to the workshop. Of course, what event would be complete without a group photo? I don’t have the group shot on my camera though, so those looking for it would have to try somewhere else.
With Danny’s workshop today, and AFA spanning over the weekends, I can officially declare my tests in the upcoming week screwed. But hey, at least I’m having fun!

It’s just not very fair people from Europe couldn’t take part… Are there any videos from this event?

Personally, I find that printing a name card for a blog to be peculiar, unless you’re making money/business out of it.
I believe there are some websites that offer to print name cards for free but the cards would have some advertising on the back and that makes the cards slightly ugly. Apart from the advertising, everything is free except for the shipping.
Personally I think it is a good thing to have your own name card even if you are not working. College students are doing that so I see no reason why double shouldn’t!
Gargron > There should be a couple of videos that will probably be up soon.
Danny > It was a pleasure attending your talk. Hope to see you again soon.
gordon > Thanks. Now to start working on the design.
MrMayat > Well, having name cards might create possibilities.
The Sojourner > I’m heading over to the store Gordon and Soshi recommended.
メガネはずしなさいっ!!笑
Oh no!! This post makes me think I dont have a name card either. Now I wonder will it be necesary to have one for personal/bussines and one for promoting your blog?
Anyway, good you attended the workshop (I wished I could be there, but obviously I couldnt). I hope to participate with Danny in some events in the future.
^_^
i also dont have name card too ^^
Haha, I thought of getting me a namecard too. Nice to have met you btw, wanna do a link exchange?
Of course, you can always print your own name cards. Make your own design and print it on some good quality paper - saves you to trouble of having to spend money and get someone else to do it.
satomi > But I’m too lazy to wear contacts >_>
phossil, pp > I’m not sure how useful a name card will be, but I’ll just get my own one anyway.
AK > Added you link to the blogroll.
Stifler > The problem is, my printer sucks.
Hi, I’m the DHS girl (was on the same mrt as you). Nice meeting you and everyone else^^
I didn’t know double’s stature is… petite.
Oh, nice to meet you. Sorry to intrude into your conversation with the lady. And yes, Haruhi knows what is good about name cards. (”Hajimemashite, watashi wa TP desu. Korega TP no meishi desu. Douzo yoroshiku.”)
I’ve been thinking about getting a name card for myself as well (even though I’m nowhere near professional orz), and I’m starting to think that I should do so before the next con. If by some miracle someone actually wants one, I don’t want to have to decline ^^;
The workshop looks like it was fun though. I sure would like to meet Danny Choo sometime, but I guess Singapore is a lot closer to Japan than North America is >_>
It was great to meet you. If you still remember the brief moment when I was handing out namecards lol! They’re quite handy at times hmmmm.
Btw let’s exchange links.
