I Miss Medabots

At long last, an anime post!

Recently, I’ve stumbled upon Medabots, a series which I loved around 6 years back, again. Man, it felt good watching the series again. Medabots used to air every weekend on a certain local TV channel which doesn’t exist anymore. I can’t exactly remember what is was, probably Channel i?

Anyway, back then, I was a casual anime watcher, watching whatever the channel threw at my. I think the few series that I can remember watching are Doraemon, Detective Conan and Medabots, all dubbed in English. At that point of time, I wasn’t really bothered whether the voices were in Japanese or English. I just wanted something interesting to watch.

Medabots has a concept similar, or one might even say ripped off from Pokemon. However, I felt that as a kind, I enjoyed it much more than the animated Pokemon series. I’ve always had a thing for robots, so they triumphed over monsters that come to from their red and white storage ball containers to battle. What further captured my interest was the ante rule that was present in the robattles, which Pokemon lacked.

Now that I’m watching the series in it’s original Japanese voice, something feels amiss. The OP sequence which I religiously watched weekly was the US version, and while it doesn’t have any cool Japanese songs like other anime, it was pretty cool. I might even go as far as saying it is one of the best dubbed OP sequence ever. Don’t believe me and still think that the Japanese version’s superior? I’ll leave it for you to decide for yourself.

and the Japanese OP

Also, it felt rather uncomfortable rewatching the series with the characters speaking in Japanese. While the original production of the series is no doubt Japanese, I’ve been watching it only in English, and thus, only the English voices were registered within my mind. Frankly, I love the English dub much more. This is probably the first and last anime which will make me say that I love the dubs over the original, since I’m more of an original version supporter because most dubs make me cringe with their cheesiness. Let’s not forgot how I shudder at the visual image of Naruto popping up each time the Japanese Metabee speaks.

My love for the series made me purchase a Gameboy Advanced just for the sole purpose of playing the Medabots GBA game. Of course, I eventually purchased other games, but if I wasn’t crazy over Medabots at that point of time, I might not have gotten a GBA.

The game was pretty good, although I would have said it was fun even if it sucked. It lasted me for quite a while until I completed it and collected are the top-level Medaparts. Sadly, as much as I would like to play it now, I’ve misplaced both the game and the handheld console somewhere. Shucks!

Now that my tests are over and I have a little time to burn before I have to start on my projects, I guess I’ll rewatch as many episodes of Medabots as I can, and probably read some Doraemon manga too. The nostalgia, it’s just too overpowering!

I only watched the first season, but I enjoyed Medabots as well. Looking at the two openings, the Japanese one isn’t too bad either, but nostalgia definitely plays a huge role with the English OP.

Either way, I think more people should have fun with the show. :P

LOL. Loves those random characters that pops out of nowhere (the referee guy and the one who sells chicken?). I lulz hard when the referee ruled out Ikki when he fights the giant medabot

It probably aired either on Channel 5 or on Central.

Not that I cared much about it anyway. The whole concept seemed silly to me.

Alongside Pokemon, this was the only other show I where I enjoyed the dub to the point I didn’t really care what the original sounded like. I NEED TO GET THIS!!!11

lol I Feel what your saying,I use to watch the show in Canada, and since me and my parents where moving too much I lost a lot of the episode and stop watching it,but right now I’m taking that lost time by watching them on youtube and the English opening with the French opening are really different, the same with the voice, but I prefer the English better.
