Here’s a comparison between the mechas from both series.

VIPER’S CREED

And IGPX
It’s apparent that the mecha designs of IGPX and VIPER’S CREED are pretty much similar. Thus, it was no surprise that IGPX came to mind during the first episode of VIPER’S CREED.
However, VIPER’S CREED had a rather monotonous first episode. The only thing that might even make it worth watching would be the battle sequences, but even those were quite crappy as compared to IGPX’s. In fact, the first episode of IGPX was far more interesting and had much more content as compared to that of VIPER’S CREED.
I know that it wouldn’t be fair to make such a comparison between the two, since one’s a competitve sport-type, while the other deals with stuff such as PMCs and possibly wars. It’s pretty obvious that the competitive sport would be far more entertaining. Even so, first episodes usually have to have something to grab the attention of the audience, and sadly, that’s what VIPER’S CREED sorely lacks. No development of the characters or plot.
Still, on the account of it having some decently sweet looking mechas, I shall hold back my final verdict and probably continue for another episode or two. If it remains the same or gets worse, I’m dropping it and rewatching IGPX instead.
Speaking of dropping anime series, I realised that my attention towards anime has decreased over time. When I first began, I would watch just about anything I could get my hands on. Yet now, after almost 2 years of anime watching, I would just drop series that I don’t have much interest in the moment it gets slightly too boring to sustain my attention.
That explains why the only show I’m still following now is One Outs. Major Season 5 is out this week, so I shall look forward to adding a 2nd show to my weekly must-watch list. I guess I’ve grown to be too picky.

A certain blogger might’ve already answered your predicament, double.
Well, the crux of the story is: as we’re exposed to more anime shows, we’ve come to like and dislike certain series/genres/shows depending on what kind of tastes we are looking for. As such, we got this impression that the quality has degenerated over the years of exposure to our fandom.
For me, I practically gave up on new shows, and have decided to concentrate watching on older shows that have been critically acclaimed (a.k.a. blogger-critics), or are simply known for their lulz. (Shall I get an Aria: The Natural Part One?)
I have yet to freaking watch the first episode, when I saw the resolution for the raw I was like “No widescreen?”
Oh well I will wait for subs, this was going to get a 3-episode test from me anyway.
I agree with TP, in regards to practically giving up on the new shows that have come out in the last few years.
I’ve been an anime/manga fan for quite a while, yet I haven’t watched any anime in the last 2 years. There just hasn’t been anything that I think compares to the older animes that have been released. Except for the recent Ga-rei Zero, nothing has managed to catch my interest at all.
Although I am excited about the new Fullmetal Alchemist series!
Who care if mecha look a like that how japanese are they like the idea of mecha. but there is only so many ways you can make them. Also I would watch Vipers Creed over IGPX any day because for one IGPX looks like another kids anime with bright colors to keep them watching it. You can tell Vipers Creed is for the more mature anime watcher.
Well then, you can take it that I love Kids anime.
i agree with daniel.vipers creed is for mature anime watcher.and to me it looks like its better than igpx.since i always prefer war and killing over sports.
Viper’s creed doesn’t seem to develop the characters in the 1st episode, kinda reminds me of Ga-rei zero’s 1st episode, less talk more action. Hope it develops more of the characters later in the series and explains why the heck is that guy so gungho and doesn’t give a damn about his operator’s commands. Rideback is far more awesome at this moment.
