Japanese College Student Homestay 2

Once again, I volunteered as a host for yet another exchange program. It’s already my third time participating as a host, and quite probably the last as well, since I’ll soon be a year 3 student who won’t have any time to spare during the school holidays. I hope not…

This group arrived from Kumamoto, small but more balanced as compared to the previous all-male group from Hiroshima. Due to work, I only managed to meet the Japanese students a few days after their arrival.

The last time I actually used my conversational skills outside of class was in October last year, so I’ve got to admit that I’ve gotten pretty rusty. Upon meeting my student, I had to do some warming up before I could speak a little more normally. This is precisely why I always need a constant source of speech practice.

The homestay was really short, spanning less than 24 hours. Still, I found myself getting very much along with my student due to us sharing somethings in common. Surprisingly, we were both born on the same date and year. Also, we’re both studying Information Technology. Also, one might think that we have a certain resemblance.

Thankfully, we’re not in the Kurokami world and he isn’t my Doppelgänger, or I wouldn’t be typing this.

I can’t really express as much as I did for previous exchange programs this time round, since I’ve been attached to these students for only 2 days and a few other evenings. Still, I’ll muster whatever I can think of in point form:

- The students that came over this time have the best English out of all the exchange programs. Not all of them could speak English well, but there were a few like my student, who could converse really fluently.

- The Singapore Flyer is a ripoff if you’re a local, but I went on it for the first and last time anyway.

- Cute girls are cute.

- For once, I’m no longer younger than some of the Japanese students!

- Talking to someone in Japanese and having him reply in English is really weird.

- For those exchange program helpers/hosts who want to flirt with Japanese female students, I’d suggest that you pick up some basic Japanese instead of trying to speak English in a Japanese accent.

- I fell for someone I shouldn’t have fallen for (T_T)

That’s about it for this exchange program. I do hope there’s a next time for me, and that I can at least visit some of this group preferably this, or next year. Also, I just realised that majority of my contacts in Japan reside in Kyuushuu. All that’s left is make a trip down to the Southern portion of Japan, again.

The exchange program aside, this blog has come to a standstill for quite a bit. It’s not that I’ve got nothing to write about. In fact, I’ve got lots of ideas in my head that have yet to be materialised into posts. However, real life isn’t good friends with the interwebs, and I find myself too tired to even access this blog’s dashboard after a whole day at work. For once, I’m actually sick of staring at the LCD screen.

Don’t worry though, since it’ll all be over in a matter of weeks. In the meantime, I’ll try geting some updates posted, such as a review on the latest Radwimps’ album, アルトコロニーの定理. It’s one heck of an awesome CD, so go listen to it, now!

    Cute girl are cute ^^

It is so good you have chance to meet up with real Japanese. While in Malaysia, I did really met and talk with lots of Japanese except my Japanese teacher and two friend who come over Malaysia to do practical test in Malaysia in Hotel Management Department.

Actually they’re called “doppleliners” in Kurokami (unless the anime version changed it).

    Cool.

Regarding the tourist ‘traps’, they are the easy way out to sight-see, and it’s more interesting with commentary, and a trained guide to do it, instead of a student guide to explain technicalities. In any sense, it’ll have to depend on enjoyable they want to make the trip for themselves, and to help you with making it more fun for them too. :D

    The resemblance… I see it.
