Cross Game Made Me Cry

The last anime that I shed tears as I watched was Byousoku 5cm, and the last time I watched it was almost a year ago. Therefore, it’s been quite a long time since a single salty droplet flowed out while I watched anime. I was determined not to cry while watching any anime anymore, but as I watched the debut episode of Cross Game, I couldn’t control myself.

I was quite surprised that the first volume was condensed into a single episode. I was hoping the anime Wakaba and Kou to be in the limelight for slightly longer.  I’m not the kind of guy who would usually say, “Wow, their romance is so sweet.”, but I can’t help but say so for Wakaba and Kou.

The idea of having a sweetheart whom you grew up with as playmates really appeals to me. That’s the reason why I adore Adachi Mitsuru’s works. Since it never happened to me, so the only place for it would be in fictional plots.

I really feel for Kou when Wakaba suddenly left the world behind.

From this…

To this…

Even though it’s not Wakaba dumping Kou, it’s still a separation. Unlike a normal separation, Kou was simply powerless to do anything to prevent it from happening. That feeling of powerlessness can’t be described in words. Sometimes, you just wouldn’t know what to feel.

The ED did a great job in amplifying the mood. Here’s a way to describe how fitting it is; it is to Cross Game what One more time, One more chance is to Byousoku 5cm. What a tearjerker.

Anyway, despite the depressing first episode which would have arrived soon or later, I’m looking forward to more Cross Game.

The ED was really well brought. And it was mister http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shintaro_Tokita member of Sukima Switch who produced the song, nice thing to know.

I didn’t cry but if my eyes weren’t as red as they were (because of pollen) I would have used my lacrymal glands. A LOT.
