I know it’s anime, but I still find it unbelievable.

There, you have Yui.
She started on the guitar like sometime before the mid-year exams, which should be sometime around May. Summer break’s in August. That’s about 3 months of playing the guitar without any musical background except the castanet in kindergarten.
I’m not sure if anyone else except me went “WTF!” when Yui played the riff after a single listen of the track just by ear. Maybe majority of those watching the anime weren’t surprised since K-ON! is supposed to be a fully positive vibe emitting anime where the characters are so awesome that they don’t face any setbacks.

The band that doesn’t face any setbacks
Need to buy a super expensive electric guitar? No problem, my friend will get me a nice fat discount. Need to be able to play a song just by ear in 3 months of learning the instrument? No biggie, less than a quarter of a year would be enough. Also, performing at Budokan at the end of 3 years in high school just like other famous artistes would be an extremely practical goal to set.
Here, you have me. I started the guitar around 4 months ago with weekly lesson, practicing almost everyday. All I can play are some simple 8 or 16 beat strumming patterns and some basic finger picking, all of which would appear lameass when placed beside Yui’s l33t guitar skills. I can’t even tune the guitar without a tuner, what more play by ear. Not that I expect myself to be playing by ear anytime soon anyway.
You get my point.

I would like to think that Yui is really so awesome so that I wouldn’t feel so bad about sucking so much, but I wouldn’t really know. Who knows, maybe I’m the snail.
I guess it’s back to the fretboard for me.

But Yui is retarded. I doubt you’re as bad as her in that aspect.
Haha… Ganbatte!
double: anime, and reality, are two, different sets, of universes. Get that, to your, head first.
The only reason Fender Japan decides to watch this show is to make business opportunities out of the otaku crowd. (My god, you guys, are so shallow and gullible. [/sarcasm]) Other than that, this show is off the balls for me. Everything’s moe overload, chokefull of clichès and unbelievable.
I think you need to lay off the anime on the monitor, man. Real men
earned groupies and handgreasehone their craft beyond their peers. So, practise, man, practise.LOL, I get that it’s 2 different worlds. Can’t you see me mocking the anime with the paragraph after the second image?
I’m pretty sure everyone went ‘what?’ at that bit considering the show went out of it’s way to suggest she couldn’t remember how to play at all soon before. It’s possible that there might be an explanation in there, though. When Yui first heard the song, she looked like she recognised it.
Though she’s probably just a typical anime-’genius’ as required for Kyoto to show off some awesome band animating skills sometime soon.
in animes and manga they do that, a “natural” talented character, is a way stimulate people to admire, majority of animes they put characters can do anything, great at sports, great grades and popular.
besides, there what people like to refer as “retard” or kinda “good-for-nothing” make show the character has some talent in some areas and though looks doesn’t have any talent. appearances and people attitudes doesn’t say if you talents or do something you’re good at, it shows when people are doing it not by attitude.
that’s why when people even real world get suprised someone who look like a retard but draws very well, or can sing or does painting, etc.
I see Yui as someone like, she can’t concentrate in 2 things at the same time, only 1, episode 4 pretty shows that.
“besides, there what people like to refer as “retard””
Lol?
She’s simply an air-head with procrastination skills, not mentally-handicapped.
It sounds like you’re suggesting anime include retards with great guitar playing skills in order to give otaku characters they can relate to and essentially ‘copy’. What, so people who watch anime are idiots?
the truth is, u can accomplish anything, yes anything, if u put your mind to it. no matter how far-fetched, unbelievable it is.
for example, become a hokage, save the world, change reality/history to bring back your loved ones so everyone can live happily ever after, an inexperienced high school basketball team win the defending champion with the help of a rookie.
IMHO seems that Yui already kwnows the song, and maybe she was practicing it already, its just that the other doesnt know.
Anyways, guys, are losing the focus here, the important thing is… MOE MOE KYUUUN~!!!!!
[ID SOJOURNER]
double, you are not 2d.
Apparently, Yui is a savant. How else could she memorize the riffs?
Oh yeah I forgot. Animating lengthy jamming/practice sessions is no fun. The audience demands moeblobs doing cute things, not spurting blood from their fingers. Heh.
In real life, acquiring a skill takes variable length of time. Just a matter of passion, talent and/or dilligence.
I would like to learn to play guitar too! but I need to buy a guitar first..haha
maybe she’s like SUSAN BOYLE! remember all the WTF looks she got when she first got on stage?
her voice totally OWNED everyone.

then again, yui’s supposed to be innocent, dumb, and someone i can like because she’s so simple-minded (and stupid.) ):
just…. try your best.
AND LEARN TO DO THE TEETH GUITAR THING.
Just keep working on those strings, double. You would be awesome before you know it.
And May. Seriously, teeth guitar?
Yui’s a retard. By retard, I refer to mentally handicapped characters that are slow in the head and do nothing but try to act moe for being retarded. They are featured in ALMOST EVERY kyoani show, I swear (Ayu, Fuuko, Misuzu, etc). Always one retard that stands out as MOE for being retarded (ie. ‘RETARDED MOE’).
Rawr, you forgot Tsukasa and… No, I don’t seem to recall one from Haruhi (well, I guess you could say Haruhi is retarded)…
