The K-ON! Girls And An Utterly Craptastic Performance

Before episode 6, I was expecting that the school festival live performance would slightly salvage the already ‘meh’ image I had for K-ON!. It’s usually these live performances that make a music themed anime memorable, or so I thought. Just take a look at BECK, or even non-music related anime like Haruhi. The live performance are always the zenith of shows that contain them.

Before the space-time warp

Then came along K-ON!, which failed terribly. The main reason which actually held a glimmer of hope to save the show was the school festival live, and it was so disappointing.

What’s the hell’s going on with the lame ass MTV-ish PV of some sort that was screened during the entire performance? Where the hell is the actual scene of the band’s performance? Did aliens abduct the band?

After the space-time warp

Haruhi had a great live performance scene with the band actually playing live instead of a warp into who knows where where we only catch a couple of glimpse of the band performing. That’s like watch a live TV broadcast of a band performance, only to have the station broadcasting the PV throughout the entire thing. What a ripoff!

KyoAni must have decided that doing scenes for a live performance was too much work, and went ahead with the plan of slacking off by inserting one of the worst music videos I’ve seen in a long time.

I guess this list of 6 has to make space for a new additional 7th family member.

Even if we disregard the visuals and pretend that we have lost our vision, the song sucks so amazingly. While Don’t Say Lazy was barely decent as a song, and Cagayake Girls sucked balls, this song has brought the music in the series to an all low. This explains the presence of some comments floating around the interwebs regarding reading only the manga and not watching the anime. I finally understand why.

This show isn’t even about music anymore, it’s about music that one would claw one’s ears upon listening to. Since it’s almost halfway through the 13 episodes scheduled, I might as well just continue watching it so that I can mock it on a weekly basis.

Love and Peace my arse _|_

It’s been a long time since I’ve decided to watch an anime just so that I can mock it. I simply can’t resist this. It’s too hilarious when you take a look at the quality of the show, and even the kind of reactions it can spark off. I still can’t get over laughing at the Fender bass reaction, but I’m feeling a little sore over the fact that Mio’s headphones are still healthy stocked and that my prediction has yet to realise. Maybe it’s because the hardcore crowd has already spent their entire life savings on the bass.

It’s amazing what influence K-ON! has.

    You’re just mad they didn’t show Mio’s panties. I know I am.

  2. 2 tj han

Eh it was ok what, they probably saving the real live performance for later episodes.

  3. 3 double

    Shin > WTF?

tj han > I thought it was pretty sucky >_> And that song is really the worst song out of the 3.

i must mention a couple of things that are my opinion as your opinion will maybe be against mine:

1)stop the comparison to Haruhi Live-a-Live thing:
1.1) Haruhi has godlike powers so she can make anything awesome
1.2) Kyoani (i hope) wont try to repeat some things since they have(i hope) learn that repeat thing will always give different results and all people will bitch/compare to the original (Haruhi ED v/s Lucky Star OP… any questions?

    2) lets view the song AND act from other point:
2.1) first show: yeah, its the girls first show, so what would you spect at a first time show? a crappy performance! so why show a crappy (or maybe normal) presentation first show when you can show something a little more “interesting” (might be weird but interesting), if you notice at the end the people give a normal applause so they know that wasnt breathtaking it was average/likeable (before ANYONE try to use again the comparison that Haruhis show was a “first time” for here please read point 1.1)
2.2) sucky song is sucky… but what can you expect being IS FIRST CHRONOLOGICAL SONG? my guessing is that in the last episode they will sing Don’t say Lazy as all people were expecting but for now lets leave it at that as a first song, remember that even the girls thougth the song (at least the lyrics) wasnt very good really

this comment is directed to any blog that makes a bad mention for not show the actual “show” so dont take it personal

The Sojourner: There’s been no “dere” that I’ve seen in any of the posts here. :P
    lol bashing K-On.

Eh, the new concept I find quite okay what. Refreshing to have something different. One Haruhi live concert is enough for me.

Maybe you got too influenced by BECK. :P
If anything, I feel that Yui’s voice did not do the song justice. although it wasn’t a very nice song, compared with the other two. Also, no Mio’s panchu. I sadded.

At least I can comfort myself with this: http://sgcafe.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=178191&stc=1&d=1241749669

  8. 8 gordon

the reason for the MTV is because it’s costly and time consuming to animate the girls playing the instruments.

  9. 9 double

TheBigN > I’m like the only guy bashing K-ON! Everyone’s just praising it to the heavens >_>

AK > Refreshing doesn’t equate the level of quality. Go watch the video embedded and you’ll somewhat agree with me.

gordon > That’s why I stated that they decided to slack off.

    Hilarious video.

It’s finally showing the immense burden that Churuya-san and Haruhi-chan have placed on Kyoto Animation. The quality and effort they require are too much for KyoAni to handle thus this kind of thing happens.

  11. 11 jinyamato

double don’t be sad, i totally agree with you…. k-on is just sub-par. They are using the moe shit to sell , and it’s only insanely stupidly funny.

  12. 12 double

I’m not even sad. I’m in pain due to excessive laughter.

  13. 13 jinyamato

haha true…. it’s insaneley stupidly funny… got to agree with that

  14. 14 wongtcsg

I feels that it is fine.
Maybe your expectations are too high.

  15. 15 double

I knew it! Moe dulls the senses!

  16. 16 MrMayat

Just watched the ep. Agree with most of the points. Ironically, for a show centered around music, the music here is very forgettable. The constant milking of Mio’s “moe” traits is beginning to grate on my nerves.

Perhaps the only way they can get to Budokan is through Tsumugi. Or rather, her dad’s influence. Book the arena, pay off some fans, and BAM!, instant fame.

  17. 17 double

That Tsumugi theory sounds real good. Maybe it might just realise.

    k-on is great!………
