Kasujiruzu: An Interesting Trio

The reason why I’ve decided to mention 粕汁ず,a Japanese band which I spotted on Youtube while searching for Radwimps covers, is simple. These guys, and girl, simply adore the alter ego (味噌汁’s) of one of my favourite bands, and they all share the goal of performing together with 味噌汁’s.

Don’t mind the afros (Hey, an afro did help Luffy win a battle!) and school uniform outfits, just enjoy their performance.

So far, 粕汁ず has recorded 2 originally composed songs.

忘恋~ワスレン~

While the members aren’t exactly what you would call awesomely skilled, the band does deserve praise for a couple of reasons. First off, in just the 2 songs, I can spot a lot of similar references to some of Radwimps’ style of music. An example would be their first song, 恋愛交差点, which has an ending that emits the same vibe that I get from hearing the ending of Radwimps’ ふたりごと 一生に一度のワープver. If you’ve been listening to Radwimps, you should be able to spot more of these tidbits in the 2 songs.

Also, I like the vocals, be it male or female. The male vocalist has quite a high voice, a little like Noda, although Noda’s singing voice is insanely high as compared to other Japanese male vocalists in bands. The female vocals sounds really refreshing.

One question I have was why they didn’t include the drummer into the videos even though there were drumbeats. I suppose they’ve yet to find a permanent drummer?

The sound quality isn’t exactly what you could call decent. But hey, they allow the songs to be downloaded for free, so I can’t complain. If 粕汁ず would ever do some proper recording in a studio and release a quality CD like Ajisai Town, I would be contacting them to purchase a copy.

Anyway, I’ve come to realise how fun discovering interesting yet non-professional performances are. A little break from mainstream channel does benefit.
